2001 entended warranty on Fuel Delivery Module..

I have a 2001 focus zx3. While riding below a half tank and turning on an on ramp the car hesitates doesn't want to go and just loses power. I called ford they say that there is a extended warranty on Fuel Delivery Module for that year. They want to charge me $100 diagnostic fee to see if that is the problem. Why can't they tell if its my car by my vin? and also how to they check to see if that is the problem because i do not want to pay 100 dollars and not have it waved if it isn't the problem.

Call another dealer.

If its a "recall" then they should handle it for free right?

Recall Reason FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
Recall Date NOV 19, 2003
Model Affected FOCUS
Potential Units Affected 671000

Recall Summary
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, CONTAMINATION OF THE FILTER IN THE FUEL DELIVERY MODULE (FDM) CAN REDUCE, AND EVENTUALLY BLOCK, THE FLOW OF FUEL TO THE ENGINE.

Consequence
THIS MAY CAUSE ENGINE HESITATION, LOSS OF POWER, SURGING, AND OTHER SIMILAR SYMPTOMS. OVER TIME, THE FILTER MAY BECOME SUFFICIENTLY BLOCKED TO CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy
THIS ACTION IS DEEMED A SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN AND IS NOT BEING CONDUCTED UNDER THE SAFETY ACT. ALL OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FDM WITH A NEW DESIGN AT NO CHARGE IF THE OWNER REPORTS THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITS ANY OF THE IDENTIFIED SYMPTOMS. THE FREE REPLACEMENT WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR A PERIOD OF 10 YEARS FOLLOWING THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE, WITH NO MILEAGE LIMIT. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING NOVEMBER 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.

You need another Ford Dealer. The directive from Ford for this problem is clear, change the fuel pump (FUEL DELIVERY MODULE) if the symptoms are there, then, only if still a concern after replacing the fuel pump, proceed with further diagnostics.

Mine was done 3 yrs ago while in vacation in FL, started stalling out. No charge from dealer.

they said its not a recall, i typed my vin on the ford site nothing shows up. they say it is covered under extended warranty and it costs 100 to diagnos to see if the problem exists. it will be waved if they do exist and be repaired for free.. I just want to know how they diagnos it so i can do it before i go to make sure the it shows up

yeah stupid, isn't there anyone that works at ford here that can tell us how they check the fdm so we know before so we don't get sucked into paying for no reason!?
