Door Handle Loose/Won't Open???

So I locked my keys in my car and I had to use the Ol' coat hanger method, when I tried opening the outside door handle when the door was being pried open and I heard a pop... Now the door handle is loose and won't open from the outside when unlocked. What should I do? what should I replace? Any suggestion are well appreciated.

Thanks!

You might've broken the assembly inside the door, if you don't see anything wrong from the handle side. I'd take the door panel off on the inside (the plastic panel held on with clips and a few screws) and see which part broke... or maybe something just got pulled out of place (like if you dislocate your shoulder).

Did it sound more like that (you said pop) or more like a snap/breaking sound (this seems more likely)?

I'm not 100% sure but I think It was a pop, I'm taking it apart tomorrow or the day after and I'll upload the pics.

I have the same problem. Mine happened naturally though and not just with one door. My driver's door and the passenger door on the same side has the same problem. I just got done taking the door panel off and looking inside. When it happened I did here a snapping sound and then something falling to the bottome of the door on the inside.

Sure enough, I found the piece and it was completely broken off. I don't know what to do. Is there a part that we can order with a part number?

Door Handle Loose/Won't Open???

Typically, there is a small hole in the center of the outer knob that you can poke something (like an ice pick) in and release the lock.

Also if you look closely at the knob, there might be a small metal tab on the shaft which is what is holding the knob on. If you push in on that you might be able to get the knob off.

Also, where are the hinges - if they're where you can get to them, you might be able to knock out the hinge pins.
