outside temperature display 2008/2009

Hi,

I just saw on ford.ca that the 2009 models come with an outside temperature display, which was not available in the 2008. Since both model years are more or less the same, it should now be possible to finally get a temperature display installed in a 2008, right? Did anyone check with a dealer already?

There is one that is part of the rear view mirror. The outside air temp and compass in the mirror depend on your options. All information I have read on the subject says you can install it on a 08, but you have to remove SYNC if it is one of the options. When I asked my dealer at one point, they did not give me an answer about it.
The mirrors are available on Ford's website in the parts section.

Thanks I saw that one but as you said it can't be installed with sync.
I went to my dealer yesterday and the guy said he believes that it should be possible to activate it the same way it is in the 2009 focus. He said he'll have to connect a scanner (?) and then we'll know more. I have an apppointment on Monday...

I have a 2009 SES package, came with Sync by default. I also thought I had the temp display, but no dice, was kind of disappointed.
In my manual the temp ISN'T in the rear view, it's on the little console on top of your dash where time is displayed.

I checked the manual, it said to hold in the 7 button or something for 10 seconds, then you can calibrate it, but nothing works for me. I SEE the temp LED's though in the daylight on my dash, so it's there, but I can't activate it either.

Let me know how it turns out for you Chris.

The outside temp, compass, and interior trunk release button were scheduled for job 2 of the 2009s. Job 2 was supposed to start building in December but Iím not sure when it actually happened. The temp and compass are displayed in the center display on top of the dash. If you look closely in the right light you can see the extra display area on either side of our existing display. I believe that the temp display and trunk release button are for all trim levels and the compass is only in the SES/SEL. In the Ford Escape, the display is also used for the dual zone HVAC temperature display. You should be able to find the 09 Focus ordering guide online. Iím waiting (just like everyone else with an 08/early 09) for one of you guys to figure out what the retro-fit is so we can put the displays to work.

I was at the dealership today. They came to the conclusion that the display which is installed in the 2008 is different from the one in the 2009 Focus, so in order to make it work they would have to replace that display, which they said is not worth it since it's a big time-consuming job to do that. So unless I would be willing to spend a fortune on that temperature display, I shall forget it...

Yup, I also went in and they told me they use the same dash for previous models. So if the 2008 dash had this feature, they would use the 2008 dash on the 2009 instead of making a new one, and they don't put the wiring for the temperature and compass.

What a jip!

The 2009 focus outside air temperature sensor part number is AE5Z12A647A and it runs about $45. Does anyone know if the wiring harness has a spot to plug it in? And if so, if the ECU needs a flash or if it will recognize the sensor and light up the display?

Does anyone with a post January 2009 build date focus have pictures of the sensor and it's connections I can compare to the pre-january '09 build to see if it is possible to retro-fit for 40 bucks?

Thanks
