Ford Fiesta ST Vs Focus ST

Ok, my oringinal plain life was to get a Ford Focus RS/ST. That was providing I had reliable transportation enough to get me around.

That's no longer the case.

A Focus RS which I want is going to cost me 20,000 euro.

Which at the time wasn't a big deal because I intend on buying it much later this year or next year where I coudl put down a huge chunk of change or pay cash for it.

That's no longer the case.

I'm in the market for a car in April timeframe (kinda wish I could buy one now, that wouldn't make sense due to me going downrange for a while)

First my requirments

1. I only buy from a dealer, reason being by German law they are required to give me a 2 yr warranty. Which will basically carry me through the next inspection (it's why I lost my civic)d
2. Finanace, I will need to finance something due to the fact that I won't be able to cash. Although I will have anywhere to put 3-4k down and considering i'm looking at sub 15k range it shoudln't be too bad.
3. Nothing new, unless it's a spectular deal.
4. Low miles though, really thing more then 50,000m/80,000KM is a huge turn off for me
5. Manual
6. Sporty
7. Perfer ford, due to both professional requirements (as a ford car sales man) and personal (family's always loved ford)
8. No hondas, hosnetly it goes back to being professional. Honda is my biggest competition, plus everyone loves them and I don't like being like everyone else.
9. Willing to consider other cars in its class like peugots, renaults, etc

So I'm considering the Focus ST 170 now. I can pick up a used one such as this one

http://eng.autoscout24.com/home/inde...5000&zip=55743

For about 12,780 with 3,750 down and interest rate of 10% my payments on a 48 month loan would be 229 a month.

However i'm sure in 2 months I could get something like that for under 12. However thats not important its more about deciding which way to go.

But then comes the Feista.

Its more economical (which is important considering I am paying $6+ a gallon)
It can be jsut as sporty
Because it's smaller it's less

Heres one that I like

http://eng.autoscout24.com/home/inde...5000&zip=55743

Stripes huge plus for me.

The price? 9,850. With 3,750 down on 10% interet rate my payments would be about 154 a month on a 48 month loan.

So which way woudl you go?

Specs (whats important to me

Focus
HP: about 165
Fuel Econcomy: 6.7/100 (combined) which translates to about 35~ MPG
Size: Good

Fiesta
HP: 143
Fuel Econocmy: 6/100 (combined) which translates to about 39.5~ MPG
Size: A lot smaller

So, what do you think I could go with?

In all honsety i'm leaning towards the Fiesta.

Largely because it has fewer KMs on teh clock, its about 3-4k cheaper and I have a hunch the performance figures are fairly close.

By the way, I just did the research.

Fiesta ST
0-60 time: 7.9
Top speed: 129 MPH

Ford Focus ST170
0-60 time: 7.9
Top Speed 133

Honsetly I bit with a few light mods to a fiesta I could be doing lower 7s for my 0-60 and get my top speed over 133.

The ST170 would be more practical (4 doors, bigger) - plus it's gorgeous - but maybe you don't NEED that much size....

But it sounds like you're already sold on the Fiesta. But really, since you're not making a choice between NEW cars, it will probably really come down to which car FEELS right to you (i.e. which one seems like it was better cared for, which one fits you better, etc.).

I bet that Fiesta with 140-plus HP really scoots, though.

I agree, another thing I was thinking.

I've been really looking forwad to a Ford Focus RS AWD.

Which we all know isn't out yet.

Now theres rummors for 2010 v6 focus with 350 HP AWD.

Quite frankly if I got a Fiesta ST in 2011 or 12 I could prob pick up a Focus V6 AWD for a decent price and be finanically set.

but more advice is appericated.

Yes I can imagien 140 plus HP really does scoot I bet. I mean my last focus had 135. it was bigger, and heavier.

5 more HP? Lighter? Meant to be more sporty? Um... Hehe.

I bet a filter, and chip I could approach 150-160 on a fiesta...

I've sold mid-size sedans with less.

If you don't need the extra room, I'd go for the Fiesta. It'll still fit plenty with the seats folded down but it wouldn't be as good for carrying people in the back... The figures sound good for a car that size, I bet it'd be a blast to drive.

The Focus ST170 (SVT) can do 0-60mph faster than 7.9.. And the top speed, depends on how much room you have but it deffinitely can go faster than 133.

As for room in the Fiesta.. I'm not sure but from the pic of the back seat it looks just like the focus one that folds flat so unless you're gonna be driving around a lot with more than one other person you should have decent space.

I would go with the Focus ST myself. How about a Renault Clio GT?

With smaller engines, gains in hp and tq are harder to come by.. You could come close to 150bhp but you're going to have to do a good bit to get close to 160.

What engine is in the Fiesta? Is it of the Zetec line? Looking around I think it may be the Duratec..
Quote:
The 993 is a 2.0 L (122 CID; 1998 cc) version built in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico. Bore is 87.5 mm (3.44 in) and stroke is 83.1 mm (3.27 in).

It is used in the US/Argentinian Focus and the Brazilian Ford EcoSport. (European Fiesta ST, Ford Focus and Focus C-Max, Mondeo, S-Max, Transit and Galaxy use Duratec HE engines).
Quote:
The Duratec HE is the name used by Ford of Europe for its family of small straight-4 and V6 gasoline engines. The family includes 1.8 L (110 CID; 1796 cc) and 2.0 L (122 CID; 1999 cc) DOHC 16-valve engines and the 2.5 L V6 (also called the Duratec 25). European 1.8 L and 2.0 L Duratec HE engines are built at the Valencia Engine Plant in Spain. The compression rate is 10.8:1.

The Focus RS featured a turbocharged version of the 2.0 L Zetec unit producing 215 bhp (158 kW) and 310 N·m (229 ft·lbf) of torque, although badged a Duratec-RS.
