no they are not the same. you can take the cv axes apart and put mazda3 axle ends on a focus axle. only problem is you have to buy both sets. but you can do it.

We'll see how this build goes my Zetec lovin friend.. Take a few pics along the way and maybe we can do a Dtec build thread and document the process for all to enjoy. Thanks again for your help Tim.

Were on vacation right now in the Florida keys, because of this trip Tim's been busy getting the cars that we took to Florida ready for vacation, so the focus took a back seat and is pretty much same as last month. Major things to do still are build the tranny, finish back brakes, and put the floor in. After those it will tech. be able to move on its own power.

I feel like I have stupid questions..... but you know em best.

what is the focus body made of? like sheet metal or what? wondering what welds to it (see that was stupid)


edit: removed 3 questions because my luck of clicking back showed me stuff I missed when I read through it.

I was hoping you had other pics of the subframe still though... and maybe a good idea on a manual transmission since i have no idea yet.


edit again: well..... my stupid ass found the rest of your subframe pics. I hope you don't mind, I may try to follow it. maybe. we'll see. I had a different idea but can see where it might not work. would definitely give credit for the design though.

whole unibody is just sheet metal. any steel will weld to it. pretty thin stuff and needs to be cleaned good.

that is cool about you using the subframe design. im just glad that it is good enough for someone to want to copy.

are you going with a ls1? i dont guess ive heard about your swap plans. if so then a t56 6spd out of a camaro or trans am is your best bet.

i dont have a lot of updates on the car. been building a couple engines and working on my other broken junk lol. only thing ive done is start on the trans tunnel.

well hell if anything it at least showed me that I can't do what I wanted with mine, and now i have something to go off of.

out of curiosity did you ever think of building it like this? (the rear end)

see how they mount in? I want to follow that. just curious anyway.



also as far as engine... it's a 92 L05. nothing special, I'm just getting it from our derby car and it has been converted to a carbed setup (I'm going way simple). wont bother building till I know the whole thing will move under its own power. then something like a 383 sc'd would be cool (need something to smoke the tires fast for drifting).

MM ok so I won't bother with any of my crap anymore... just wanted to bounce some ideas off someone with pretty much the same thing. gotta love the 327's though too.
