Nice build, I need to stop playing around and get an LSD for my FSP D23 mazda3. The car looks like its coming along just nicely, how did the 2011 season go for you? You did well in 2010..how much does your car weigh in full race trim? I'm in south eastern VA I'd love to come down to NC and give you a run for your money :P SC is a bit too far for me.

@Blackcatn20: I didn’t push it too hard, maybe 8/10, I didn’t really go much past 50 on the straights either. I could easily have been pushing it to 70+, but I don’t need a straight to jail ticket. Also many of the cruiser riders are not very skilled, and going too fast doesn’t give you much chance to respond (avoid hitting them) to their sloppy riding.

@mzmanny: Thanks for the comments, this year I haven’t been doing quite as well; I’ve been running on street tires in our tire index class. The LSD made me quite a bit faster, but I’m the only non-stock car running in tire, so I’m getting knocked down in PAX. We have a local HS guy who kills it with a protégé, and he’s currently leading the class. H Stock PAX is brutal. Anyway I fully recommend an LSD, best (and most expensive) upgrade I’ve done thus far.

I usually don’t make it further north than charlotte for events. Maybe one of these days I’ll get up to a Triad event.

I haven’t done much in weight reduction, or weighed the car, so probably close to stock. One of these days I’ll update my musings on future weight reduction plans for the car.

The autox section has be slow lately, and I have some free time at work wait for my FEM work to run.

So here’s a point of discussion to find out what everyone thinks. I’ll have about 2K early next year to spend on car upgrades, trying to make a decision on what to get. I’m thinking of running FSP in our street tire class next year again, I enjoyed the competition there this year.

Option 1: Add coilovers, KW Variant 3s with as shipped springs and make my LCR plates work with them. I think my used koni yellows are ready for a break, and this is the necessary route to move the car further in a competitive direction. Will be needed for sure to run the necessary spring rate to deal with a wide r-comp in the future.

Option 2: Seats, brackets, and harnesses. I’m improving my driving to the point now where I really am holding myself up with the wheel and bracing against the door. I think the seats will let me drive faster as I’ll be more comfortable in the car.

Option 3: Any other thoughts?

Bottom line, 1 and 2 will both happen eventually, trying to determine where to go first.

IIRC you had the koni and H&R set up?
if you do, i say give it one more year with em. (even though i love and want the KW3s)
i'm sort of in the same boat as you. i need coilovers and a racing seat for the same reasons, bad driving habits! bracing myself against the passenger seat, adjusting myself in the seat mid Chicago box!
so what i did was went out and got a racing seat! my point of view alone will help me be faster. i feel so much more secure, i can see the tenths coming off now.
