This stuff is way advanced for me...but it can't hurt to try and do some other things on a spare TB. I will try a few things and see how it goes. I am thinking flipping the plate and drilling dimples in the plate as well.






Ok so I did it. I didn't do the dimples cause I didn't really have a clue on how so I just did the original idea.

I can see a good gain from around 2k and I get on it, it responds much faster. I do miss my whistle from my CAI tho. But that is the only bad thing. Car runs smooth, and has better response for free. Can't complain. Also be careful that you don't crimp your CC cable. I did and it makes the throttle hard to press all the way. Just need to figure out a way to make it straight, but for now it is just disconnected and it is fine.

i have it installed. not sure if i like it yet. it DOES change the power curve in a way that i am not sure i like, or just not used to it. it gets rid of that 'boost' feeling you get around 3k. you really have to get on it to feel it pull there. but it does pull most of the way, from start to top rpms. will have to see it on the highway. i want to see how it handles speeds at 55, then on it.

oh, and i am talking about tom's tb, not my own that i am working on...its at a cnc shop now. hehe.

Otherwise it's really interesting too see how much technical discussion this has generated. Not at all what I was expecting, but very cool.

Certainly, some work with a dremel tool to radius the ducktail would reduce some of the turbulence at the leading edge, and some careful trimming of the ramp in the throttle bore would help open the flow up at mid throttle quicker to minimise the effect near 3K RPM NemesisEnforcer noticed.

Dimples on the throttle plate would be a cool idea I would never have considered.

As for the ball valve throttle, you can give the cookies to Cosworth, they have a duratec barrel throttle assembly that uses the same basic idea.

But now that you mention it, a simple single bore ball valve could replace a stock TB.

I might look into this........
