Dashboard Rattles at 2000 RPM

I have a 2006 Focus ZX3 SES which I love. It's always been noisy, but a new sound has popped up over the last three weeks.

Around 2000-2100 RPM, the dashboard rattles very loudly and very annoyingly. This does not happen on my morning commute, only on the evening commute when it is warmer. When I start the car, I let the engine idle down from 1500 to 1000 before kicking it in gear, yet this doesn't seem to make a difference. I tried driving with the transmission in 2nd gear, and since it kept the engine right around 2000, the noise was unbearable. If i slap my hand on top the dash and hold it, the noise stops.

Thoughts on what it could be/possible fixes? From 48,000 miles to 86,000, I've only changed the oil and bought new tires. Maybe I'm due for some more maintenance.

Thanks for the help!

my '07 zx4 is the same, it's not as bad now, when i first got it the rear view mirror was the main culprit, ended up being a broken grommet I believe.

Now most of my vibration seems to be coming from the A/C vents.

My dash just started this as well. If it's warm enough I'll look around and let you know. Mine seems to be coming from behind one of the screws so I figure it loosened or I'll have to put some padding behind it

My 07 is just the opposite, in the cold something in the dash is crazy loud around 1000-1500. Once idles down its all ok. think i need engine mounts tho. something is loose in dash for sure

On mine the center 2 dash vents rattle like crazy when going over reflectors in the road. Anyone know how to remove these vents or fix the rattle??

First, try tightening all dash bolts in that area. If that doesn't help, try a little bit of foam or silicone between whatever surfaces are rattling against each other. Basically, your going to have to get in there and try to figure out what is rattling against what.
