Are wheelspacers needed to run 225-45-17's on stock SVT wheels ? I run G stock on RS2's and get beat bad by a Mini on NTO1's.

steve35svt, I moved your post to a brand new thread.
The other thread you posted in (The Who's Who of Focus Autocrossers) is not open for this type of discussion. Now, on to your question... ![]() No, you won't want to use spacers at all. That would only worsen the chances of rubbing on the fenders, as spacers push the wheel/tire further out towards the edge of the fender. I ran a couple sets of RT-615s in that size with success, but they are a tight fit. See here: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=84742 I would recommend running a 215/40/17 R compound if you really want to be competitive. The shorter sidewall will help in turn-in response, and the shorter diameter will help you get out of the hole faster. Now, if you really want to see why I don't run the 225/45's anymore for AutoCrossing, read on: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...20#post1885420 Oh...

Who makes a true R compound in a 215/40/17? I've competed with this car two years and like the way it handles for a front drive, previous racer was C prepared Trans-Am.The only thing I miss is TORQUE!

I didn't think about the limited suppliers for that size, but there is at least one.
Kumho-V710: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=8 If you're on a budget, the Nitto NT-01 has been working pretty good for the people running it around here, though you'd have to opt for 215/45 again... http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...yp=Competition Now, here's something you'll really like. Hoosier A6 in a 225/40/17. Extra width and 1/2" shorter than stockers. ![]() This is a GREAT tire! http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=0

I run the Hoosier A6 - 225/40ZR17 with no rubbing issues.

Great,225/40's fit ! I was concerned by the lack of clearance between the rear shock and the tire.Yes I'm on a tight budget , 4 kids will do that , and NTO1's won't beat that Mini. I've bought used Hooier's from Appalachian Race Tire before in the late 1990's ' I'll have to check if they still offer them. thanks for the help!
