Question First R-Comps

Just wondering, what were your first r-comp tires you competed on? Mine were the Yokohama 001R.

Too long ago to be relevant...

BF-Goodrich R1 (no longer made).

I've run the following:

Goodyear GSC-R (I think that's what they were called and they are available through Competition East) - Great tire, lasted TWO (2) events, but earned me Fastest Tim of the Day (FTD) on both events (in a Formula Firebird), but $1000 per set wasn't worth it.

Kuhmo "Victoracer" - Not as fast as the Goodyear, but tons of grip and durability (2 full seasons). A lot of "slip and grab" that takes some getting used to.

Hoosier A6 - The BEST AX tire I've ever run. Tons of grip out of the gate and little to no time for them to come up to operating temperature. Lots of lateral grip and very forgiving. I can get two seasons out of the tires without cording.

By far, the Hoosier is the most competitive tire, but you pay a premium. They are nearly $220 per tire (depending on the distributor), but are an AMAZING tire.

Run those BFG R1 after killing the 001R's then went to Hoosier R2. Just had my first event on V710 and liked them. Bought used so took what they had and heard the Kuhmos last longer.

The Kuhmo is more durable, but does not have the grip.

Open to debate, but the Hoosier is much more "neutral" and predictable...under heavy cornering loads.

half dead R888s. Way too hard for autocross. The hot ST tires would be faster, but they were cheap and kept the wear off my street tires.
