oh yeah, forgot the pic. its dark now, getcha tomorrow.

a "catch can" is an oil-air separator. it keeps oil out of places it shouldn't be.

they can get really crazy (sti forum link), or be really simple (focus.c-f-m link). there are many pages like this one telling you how to install one.

Sorry to do this... but I wanted to let y'all know what an a-hole Clay (focusfreak03) can be.

The only time I've heard of him was in this thread, where he posted "you, Mr. Carnack, are a F@ck!ng idiot and obviously have no clue as to how things work. maybe you should do some more research before you start trying to give advice." and then sent me a little present (see attachment). Not sure why 'reputation' is desirable, but I know I've done nothing but look for help & provide help during my stay at this website. Shame on you, Clay. Your mother would be sad.

PS, Clay: The contraction for "you are" is "you're," not "your." Do us a favor and graduate from middle school.

hahaha,
take it easy man...

the catch can is kinda expensive... cannot effort it...
still I want to try out my SRI...
so... maybe I will do what 03OrangeSVT is doing...
take a spint on highway and see what happen!!
maybe put a paper tower at the end, (no blocking it, just cover it as a filter)
and see what is going on!!

Lets all stay somewhat "civilized" and try to not be rude to one another... or the infractions will fly.

When running a draft tube setup like I have the only drawback is that once in awhile you'll get a little grey "blob" about the size of a dime fall on the driveway. This is oil/grease/contamination build up coming out of the hoses, I've ran cars for years like this and have never had any issues with anything getting back into the motor.

As for what mine looks like... I just have 2 hoses running down the front of the tranny to the back side of it and I zip tied them to an empty bolt hole on the tranny itself... nothing fancy or pretty, just effective.

^^ I suppose it would be pretty hard for anything to work its way all the way up the tube, maybe only water/mist/dust ... and maybe only theoretically, but there are absolutely no drawbacks to using a cheap & simple breather filter :)

I get a drop of something out of my draft tube (on the PCV/crankcase, not valve cover) every once in while, too... Which is why I won't use the intake mani vacuum without a catch can. *DO NOT WANT* sludge in the SC.

The intake was on the car when I had purchased it, the vc had a tub with a filter on the end of it. The filter did always get dirty. as to what orange said about just running a tube down to the ground, that's not the first time i heard of that.

Executioner, either a filter or a tube will work just fine. We have been talking about the "best" way... But I think everyone agrees that using a filter or a tube on the valve won't HURT anything.

The tube just might not clean your crankcase of corrosive chemicals as well as using a filter will.

Here are some pics of my valve cover breather. I just shortened the tube today, I think I like it better this way. Note: the hose is 5/8", or 16mm.

There's also a picture of the PCV valve on your crankcase. This is where lots of guys (especially forced induction guys) attach a 'draft tube.'

The last picture is the inside of the tube that was attached to the valve cover. Nasty, right? This is why I say DO NOT attach the valve cover vent to your intake. I know some CAI and SRI kits have a hole to attach your valve cover vent, but you ought to cap it and use a breather hose and filter.
