Stock MAF for now. Right now I can't afford the cost of a tune to be able to run the SVT MAF

Cool! Glad to hear it fits -- same deal for me with the cost of a tune.

Thanks!

Yeah. I took my MAF tube off the stock box top and it mounted right up to the SVT box top.

Just got home from my dinner run. Very noticeable difference in the car. I did some acceleration up to around 3500 - 4000 RPM ... very nice growl that is audible inside the car. I'm quite happy with the sound. My in the seatometer also noticed some difference in acceleration, so I'm happy there as well. Granted, for the most part I grandma the car to help keep my MPG up, and I hope that won't change, but we'll see. :)

Have you noticed any increase in your MPG with the SVT snorkel, Hawkeye? Just curious -- I figure you may have had enough time to run through a tank of gas by now (or not, perhaps).

Actually, I haven't had time to run a full tank through yet. My work commute is pretty short, so I only go through a tank about every 2 weeks, and I did the install in the middle of a tank. Based on where my needle is now, it looks like there might be a little improvement. I'm tanking up tomorrow (Yay payday) and it will be around 2 weeks to go through the tank again, so we shall see. Prior to the intake replacement, my commute and occasional fun trip somewhere MPG was anywhere between 26 and 28. Not bad considering the amount of stop and go I have to do. Of course, right now my tires are in sad shape, so I know that's affecting it some, but I'm getting new tires next week, so that could skew the data some, but oh well. It won't be a huge difference.

I don't think I noticed anyone try this but you can fit the SVT snorkel to the stock zetec box. It was a how-to post I found a long time ago I think on focushacks.com.

Cut the little tabs on the outside of the stock airbox round fitting hole. Take a couple zip-ties or a hose clamp and tie it maybe a few inches below the square/rectangular/whatever-that-shape-is SVT snorkel end. Heat it over the oven or if you have a heat gun, even better. With the plastic soft enough but not melting, fit it over the round hole. Let it cool. The snorkels are made from two pieces, the zip-ties or hose clamp will keep the pieces together while you fit the snorkel on. You'll have to cut the little tab on the snorkel that would normally mount to the frame of the car.

Ah there you go, just found it: http://www.focushacks.com/index.php?modid=57

As for that side hole, I bought my car without the resonator and I have since plugged it up with a piece of pvc plastic and glue. Wouldn't you get more pressure if you only have one opening into the air intake system??

There was a thread somewhere else on here about fitting just the SVT snorkel in. But evidentually the S pipe on the side of the SVT box is a key part of its performance. And the SVT's top is larger than the standard ZETEC also.

Filled up today. Went 289 miles and no low fuel light. 10.003 gallons of gas, so 28.9 MPG. That's with mixed driving with some stop and go. 1 week of stock airbox, 1 week of SVT airbox. So about 2 weeks now for SVT only MPG.

Speaking of the SVT snorkel, the tube is obviously bigger than stock but the actual opening going into the lower portion of the box is the same size as the stock box: approx 2".

Since the snorkel opening is bigger, making the air rush in quicker, would it be beneficial to get that 2" opening bigger... say to 3"???

Huh? The end of the SVT snorkel that goes into the bottom of the airbox is a totally different shape and everything.
