2.3L Pzev VS Duratec

What is the difference between the PZEV and the Duratec? (I just bought a 2004 2.3L PZEV But it does not mention duratec anywhere.) Please forgive my newbe questions....
also: will the performance parts that fit the duratec fit the 2.3L Pzev? Thanks!

The 2.3L PZEV is a Duratec. The PZEV stands for partial to zero emissions vehicle. It's not the type of engine. It is a Duratec engine.

This might also help clear things up...
The 2.3 Duratec was originally in the Ranger PU.
They took the 2.3 Duratec and added a bunch of "emmisions junk" to obtain the PZEV certification from CA and other wacko states.
The current 2.3 Duratec in the '05 is NOT a PZEV, just a Duratec like in the older Ranger's.
So ALL PZEV's are Duratecs but not all Duratecs are PZEV certified.
Hope that helps some.
Cheers.

But the Mods for the Duratec will work if it is a PZEV or not...

If you look up performance parts on any of the websites at the top of this forum, you will notice they're listed under duratec not pzev.

I have a couple quick comments to add:

- ltdeckard: it's Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle, not "Partial to Zero..." Long story, but suffice to say that a while ago CA decided to pass a law requiring that some percentage of the entire CA 'fleet' (all private cars registered in CA) had to be so-called zero emissions vehicles (at the time, this meant electric cars; these days hydrogen cars also seem to meet the spec too) Since electric cars just don't make sense (low performance, short range, difficult to 'refuel', expensive) the auto manufacturers petitioned CA to offer certain VERY clean cars at least partial credit toward being a true ZEV. Thus was born the PZEV.

- flat 4: the Duratec in the Ranger is the same engine design but it has a host of differences: iron block, no balance shafts, a variety of internal parts differences including things like a different crank, heavier pistons, etc. In my opinion it's very misleading to say "...just a Duratec like in the older Ranger's"
