its not anything to do with k&n its just the design. short rams dont prosper much more than the price tag for the focus. just better designs available.

reccomendations?

I drive normally: 1/3 city, 2/3 highway mileage. Most of my time is spent on winding suburban roads. Id like to put a CAI in my focus for power and mileage gains, but will i be able to see and feel a difference from normal driving? I do not race, at all, but i often speed I like to have acceleration, and while I love my focus...that little zetec doesnt do the job all of the time. Basically, i just want to know if its worth the 250 id spend on an iceman, or if i should just save my money for something else.

also, does this require switching gasoline? Ford doesnt reccomend using premium gas. And how many people have problems with the CAI sucking up water? I do not want to committ to something if it will do more harm than good, ya know?

Let this focus ignoramous know what he should do.

THANKS
-Nick

Maybe I'm an idiot...I dunno...So these CAIs such as the FC and the volant, both use the stock snorkel (SVT for FC) So they are taking air from the same point as the stock intake, except into a different style airbox and filter. The airbox doesn't seem any different (assuming the hole on the top of them both is fully sealed to the hood - i hope - someone who knows please verify this) so it seems to me that the only change is a less restrictive air filter. The stock intake takes in air from the front of the engine bay...I don't see any real difference between stock and these $200 - $250 kits.

Someone tell me what the big improvement is from stock to these...because it seems to me since they take in air from the exact same point as stock it won't do much...

Please set me straight here

one more thing...since the FC CAI uses the SVT snorkel rather than the stock storkel, wouldn't that give it the performance edge?

bueller...bueller...

in2focus: an intake isnt a big deal, real simple mod u wont need to change fuel, the type of driving u do doesnt matter, the only thing that really does matter is if u live in a wet climate dont get a long tube intake. ivek known two people that had to replace their motors from sucking up water thru a long tube intake. u definately notice a power increase so get it and love it! ice man is a good choice. its the quietest of the intakes.

illini: the volant has a bigger dia tubing than stock, the box is bigger, the filter is wayyyy less restrictive, it has a second runner off the side of the box not dependent on just the snorkel, the box blocks more engine heat, and can be fully functional with a fc ram air hood. it is a big improvement from stock, dyno proven to gain hp and more importantly torque, and once its insatlled u will love the increase in overall performance of the car including sound. my 2 cents, dont get the fc intake, poor build quality! get the volant if ur looking at the 2 of them. it is definately worth the 250... in response to ur second post, the fc isnt better because of the svt snorkel, its not a very signifigant difference, and u can upgrade the svt snorkel to the volant if u want to

ok if you want just the sound of an intake take out that resignator out of your stock air box, sounds almost ezactly the same as an aftermarket intake. Also don't get a AEM Cold air, 3 of my friends have lost the engines due to water coming up the tube, one even had a Bypass valve. Get a a volant if your gonna get one or a short ram. If you want Colder air coming in Get a european grill and european Snokel Extension for the regular snokel. You will get tons of cold air. Take strait cold air from your front grill.
