MK1 Euro bumpers in today's market

Okay, first of all, WHY HAS NOBODY MADE A KNOCKOFF EURO BUMPER?? Like, a direct ripoff of the Euro factory bumper. ..WTF?! Someone could make a KILLING here in the states. .... especially a ZX3 rear bumper; those are always hot.

Secondly, I'd like to try and find out what people are paying for theirs, the select few that have them stateside. From what I've found, the bumpers themselves are quite cheap, but the shipping cost is murder. Generally, I am finding used Euro bumpers to be had for about $300, I even spotted a NOS one on ebay. ....

Thirdly, if I happen to score a pair of bumpers. . ....how exactly might one go about having a mold cast, so urethane copies might be made? Hell, I'll be the one to do it :p lol

Answer to your first question is that there is not enough demand for it being that the MK1 model is over 10 years old.

To answer your second question, all you need to do is search the B-S-T section for past sales to get a general idea as for what the bumpers are going for. I have a RS collections front bumper that I paid under $400 for complete. But you also others that paid more than that. You're right, shipping is the biggest detractor when it comes to having a Euro bumper. But if someone is determined enough, they will get it no matter what.

And to answer your third question...if you happen to score a pair of bumpers, you would be better off just selling the second one than trying to make a mold of it. I think to make a mold and have it made would initially cost you about $10,000-$20,000 once all is said and done. Then you would have to pay a company to use the mold to make your bumpers. Then you would have to worry about selling enough to compensate your costs to put this into production. This kind of stuff is expensive, and not something that you can just jump right into.

Rear or front bumper?
I can ask my friend that has Ford junkyard here locally what would it cost...
I need oem woofer for Focus mk1, I can not find it here and I know that U.S. focus has it. Maybe we could work a deal?...

As mentioned the mk1 is getting on in age. Maybe 6-7 years ago you coulda made a killing but not nowadays.

Prices vary. There is supposedly a shop oversees that will ship complete rear bumpers, lights, crash bar and foam +tails for about $200. Was on a fb post recently. Waiting to see it happen b4 I believe it.

Third, you cannot make a euro bumper for sale here in the states because it is not technically legal. Most people liked the euro bumpers especially the rear cuz they were shorter and did not extend out as far which gives the car a cleaner look. But to use a euro rear you cannot use the US spec rear crash bar and foam. Even if you use the euro crash bar and foam your car is technically not legal to be on the road.

ahh yes, i forgot about the dreaded "US spec crash test". .. but, what about ANY other bodykit maker, say Wings West; are they DOT-legal or whatever, in order to legally market and produce their products? And also, I was kinda thinking the whole bumper-casting thing could be done barnyard-style, like making fiberglass fenders (only vice-versa, because we're talking about the mold that the fender would be glassed in, lol) . ..???. ... the whole "bodykit" thing is something i've never dealt with, so i'm very unsure how that all works. ...

I also think there would be solid enough interest in selling these, even though as you said we're talking about 10+ year old vehicles. Especially, if anything, rear ZX3 euro bumpers. Those things have ALWAYS been hot, and always relatively hard to come by in the US, even back in the MK1 days. ...

I need a rear bumper first, but want both front and rear. Would you need JUST the sub, or the sub and box?

The reason aftermarket companies get away with their products is because they specifically label them for "off-road use only". Which takes away their responsibility for any problems that may happen.

Then clearly, I would do the same with a knockoff-Euro bumper.

The main thing is, I'd be willing to risk a few hundred bucks to have a mold created, but not 10s of thousands :( and I still contend the market is hot enough that they'd fly off the shelf. It's something that was NEVER done, and would still be popular.
