si, focus, evo
Results from the weekend. (62 STS)
https://axwaresystems.com/axorm/file...20%237_pax.htm I'm way down there at 59 but look who I inched out! https://axwaresystems.com/axorm/file...20%237_sum.htm Anyone else this far behind an SI? That is a fully class built car, and not a daily driver, but it still hurts. I usually compete for second with that RS and sometimes a TC. Also, I sure am glad STS2 is separate; look at that CRX!

Si's are tough...'SpecCivic' for STS. I'm in 33rd on PAX here, 4th and 17th were 1st and 3rd at Nationals in 2007...I would say that if you can get a STS Focus within 3 seconds of a National caliber Si, you're doing well...hard to overcome 600-700 pounds, especially with the STS tire rule.

I just noticed my pal Des Toups was 9th on PAX--great guy and driver too...knows Foci well--he drove one in HS at Nationals last year.

Huh, I'm surprised you're THAT far off of an SI, we have 4 or 5 nats civic SI's in our region and on all seasons I'm usually within 4 to seconds of them, and I only have an rsb and a tune.

You must be a better driver... I'm not bragging. This si was built to the letter for STS, on RE01-Rs. They somewhat kept to themselves as dual drivers seem to do. I have basically no engine mods, so you and I are probably on a similar vehicular level, though from completely different directions. Too bad we're so far away or we could compare notes at an event.
I can't for the life of me remember this Des Toups guy or find a pic with the 12 DS WRX. Is he in TVR? A bunch of us (AL) went up there saturday then a bunch of them came down sunday. We do that once a year and call it axis vs allies. I didn't go but having different cars and people was fun. I need to start driving to some neighbor regions for more practice.

I am typically 3-6 secs behind our local specSi National contender(s). The RE-01's will kill us right there, and if they are shaved the better!
What makes your car STS? What motor do you have 2.0 or 2.3? Getting a set of adj. shocks & dampers would make a great improvement, and then a designated set of racing tires will also shave some time off. The list is like never-ending. But your car is most likely heavier then a SVT, definitely stock for stock won't handle as well as a SVT and possibly never will, so don't get discouraged! You probably have 500;bs. + on a SpecSi... In STS that equates to death. If you want to be competitive drop back to HS or move up to FSP... IMHO a Focus has no place in STS. -flame away-

mods are in profile.
ST with basically no engine mods. I've got better things to spend the money on still. I can't make up my mind what to do about sways, because I can tune what I have now pretty well with the tire pressures. I'd think I'd be nearly identical an SVT with tune and RSB. Next year will have true STS rubber on these rims and gas friendly tires on the stockers. That's the biggest thing I'm lacking. I was thinking 225/45/15 RS-2's.

See STS results...see PRO results. A well-driven Focus can be about 2 seconds off of a National SpecCivic on a 60 second course. That makes it a good regional car, IMO. My car (2002 ZTS with Advancetrac) when I raced it in 2005 was mildly prepped at best: 15x6.5 Volvo wheels 205/50-15 Falken RT215s SPC Camber adjusters Koni Yellows in front Spax adjustables in back H&R Race 24mm 3-way RSB (http://jason.hodges.cc/Ataru/Auto-X-.../thumbs_p.html) SPT chip UDP Iceman TrueBendz?Magnaflow 2.25 catback Better wheels--7.5", LCR camber plates, Hi-flow Cat, and urathne bushings would have all helped to make the car faster...not to mention coilovers and cornerweighting. A Focus is closer to 600-700# more than a 89 Civic (2000 pounds or slightly less). That cannot be made up at the National level. However, the Non-SVTs can be just as fast as the SVTs because they are geared better for autocross. So, In sum...the Focus is a fine choice for a regional and even divisional car in STS. Its even a better fit in STX as you can run a LSD. They are easy to drive quickly, and easy to build... Here is me in action...and results for that event (2nd in STS to SpecCivic...and about 3 seconds off of PRO class National trophy Civics which is where our uber-fast STS guys play) http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=r3wwZjib_H8 http://www.waiautox.org/2005/wai%202...t%205_fin_.htm
