The drain plug has an integrated, dished washer that contains what is effectively an "O" ring. I too am used to throw away washers, but I got a kind of blank look when I asked the parts counter guy for a couple. I bought a spare drain plug so I could see what they were like before I actually changed the oil. The "O" ring is not sold separately. The Saturn Vue is very similar with the 2.4 liter engine. It would seem that eventually the "O" ring would lose its resiliency but the plug's integrated washer has a collar that contacts the oil pan before the "O" ring is flattened. Again, this is the PZEV, and presumably the Duratec engines. The Zetec looks like it may be different as it's torque spec is somewhat less at 18 lb-ft.

A minor correction to the displacement of the Saturn Vue engine, its actually the four cylinder 2.2 liter Ecotech L61 engine.
