it wont, there wasnt a db meter test from a specific distance measured with a measuring tape :) Kinda like with window tinting, they have to use a meter to give you a ticket. Cant just say "it appeared WAY too dark to me so he gets a ticket."

Laws are stupid in WA.

Since I got here, people keep honking at me in traffic. Turns out I can't use my phone and drive in this state. Pretty lame. People actually go out of their way to honk. They should mind their own goddamn business.

Yes it is a primary offense in WA to drive and use your cell phone without a handsfree device.

It's amusing to me because it's still legal to smoke and drive. Has no one considered the dangers of having a small FIRE inside a car when being operated?

Someone please tell me he's joking..

Oh, if you're doing something that distracts you while you're operating a 2000+ LBS VEHICLE that could kill a person at most speeds you best believe it's other people's business. SERIOUSLY!?!

I can guarantee you'd throw a fit if someone HIT YOU because they were on a phone.

There are plenty of other things people can still legally do while driving here that are more distracting. My post just above about smoking is a great example. Listening to music is distracting, navigation is REALLY distracting, eating and so on. I just find the lack of personal freedoms amusing, but that's the liberal mindset and WA is a liberal state.

I'd be pissed if someone hit me but I'm not going to take it out on the rest of society by taking away their individual freedoms. It doesn't really matter WHAT causes an accident because someone will still be at blame so legally it's irrelevant. Who hit who? The end. Most states don't have cell phone bans and we're all surviving just fine, freedoms intact.

For now. Traffic accidents and fatalities due to drivers being distracted by cell phones is on a rapid incline, which is why states are starting legislation efforts.

I can't find clear statistics to confirm that.

Quote:
In the US, the number of cell phone subscribers has increased by 1,262.4% between the years 1985-2008. In approximately the same period the number of crashes has fallen by 0.9% (1995–2009) and the number of fatal crashes fallen by 6.2%.[13][14][15] It has been argued that these statistics contradict the claims that mobile use impairs driving performance.[16] Similarly, a 2010 study from the Highway Loss Data Institute published in February 2010 reviewed auto claims from three key states along with Washington D.C. prior to cell phone bans while driving and then after. The study found no reduction in crashes, despite a 41% to 76% reduction in the use of cell phones while driving after the ban was enacted
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_...driving_safety

More amusing...

Quote:
Driving while using a handsfree cellular device is not safer than using a hand held cell phone, as concluded by case-crossover studies.[19][20] epidemiological,[1][2] simulation,[9] and meta-analysis[11][12]. The increased "cognitive workload" involved in holding a conversation, not the use of hands, causes the increased risk.[21][22][23] For example, a Carnegie Mellon University study found that merely listening to somebody speak on a phone caused a 37% drop in activity in the parietal lobe, where spatial tasks are managed
Allowing hands-free devices in WA doesn't actually solve their proposed problem, however, they still just banned phones anyway. I don't have a problem with the intention of banning phones, but there has to be a better way of going about it. If the law were about safety and not some other angle, all forms of distracted driving would be banned.
