I managed to survive the Spur Ride our Squadron had. Nothing like getting smoked, dogged out and humiliated for 36 hours while you do various tasks and answer questions on unit and Army history. I woke up this morning with every fiber of my physical being stiff and sore. Using my heat pad right now. It was a cool experience and I got my silver spurs and a cool framed certificate, as I was inducted into the Order Of The Spur.

For those not familiar with Spur Rides, here is an article I found:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Spur

This was the only vid I could find. Not my Unit, but just an example:
YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

The tasks and standards vary from unit to unit. The local media was there for the event so when I see the article of our spur ride, I'll post what I can.

*Update*
Here's an article on our Spur Ride:

Still waiting on the article from Kiro 7, the local media that was there.

A pic of me after the PT test.

One of the Spur Holders thought they would look good on me and wanted to see my war face.

I got them after the test and yes, I passed with the requirements for the Spur Ride. I actually did better than I expected. One of the Spur Holders said, "I think these would look good on Maggot Johnson."

Isn't it odd to be an e7 And still get referred to as "maggot"? Lol... Was it really fun? Or is it just the acomplishment of gettng them silver spurs?? Also, don't you get gold spurs for deploying as a calv scout?

There were LTs and Captains going through it too, so that part didn't bother me. Was it fun? Not all the time, but there were some things that we got into it and had some fun. Day two we all got into a circle while one of the other maggots sang and we did the Macarena and Hokey Pokey and stuff. Other times, it was just a suck fest that we had to rely on our teammates to make it through. I already had my gold combat spurs from my Iraq deployment, but that's not quite the same as earning your silver spurs by going through a Spur Ride. Now, I've both sets and two Order Of The Spur certificates.
