Aftermarket Header vs Stock pic help request
There has and is much discussion regarding heat soak currently. A suggestion was raised to install an aftermarket header and wrap it to contain the heat.
But for many, this suggestion is a non-starter as it was assumed that it would cause problems during emissions inspections. After some thought, I contacted the Missouri EPA rep to specifically inquire. The focus features a 'fast lightoff' cat which is due to its close location to the engine. But high under hood temps also contribute to pollution (its on the MO Clean Air website. Tell the truth I was surprised by that). I posed this question to the EPA rep. "Would it be legal to run an aftermarket header for the 2005-2008 years with the catalytic converter moved down under the car like the 2000-2004 year Focus". He said that its very hard to tell just from our phone discussion and could I post the question on there internal website. So before I post (And I must do so fairly quickly). I need a pic of an aftermarket header (Note: I understand Ford Racing will be offering one soon. Anyone confirm?), A pic of the stock exhaust header with cat (side shot preferable). And most importantly, your best thoughts on how to contain the heat in the aftermarket header for delivery to the downstream cat so that we don't have to try and rig a heater circuit. The EPA guy will solicit multi-state opinions from his peers and email me the results. So give it a really good think. This may be our chance to run an aftermarket header legally on the Duratecs and remove a substantial engine compartment heat source simultaneously. Thanks

This is the only pic I have of my stock header when I took it out. Hope it helps!
And to keep the heat in the aftermarket header, you could use header wrap and go all the way down to where the cat would be

I believe all the 2.3 manifolds on the 03-04 PZEV's were cast and not tubular. My manifold on my 05 is tubular. It might be that all the PZEV manifolds are cast to easier accomodate the air pump and such but I am not sure on that.
