Rear seat mod for extra room.

This works neat on a hatchback, but it could be used on a sedan. I rarely carry rear seat passengers.....mostly carry stuff back there. Removing the seat bottom gives you extra space, but makes it difficult to sit back there (very uncomfortable). This mod puts a 5/8" foam pad covered with carpet, for sitting on, in that space (a kid shouldn't complain much).

I used two sections of Safety Mat foam (Home Depot and other places), glued together. I covered one side with replacement carpet (Walmart Automotive section), glued on. If you're careful the pad will wedge in place and no attachment is necessary.

Now the hatchback seatback will fold down level, without having to push the front seats forward. Makes a neat /useful setup, and hard to tell anything was done at all from the outside. (You can also find the foam panels in dark gray.)

Happy modding....

i might do this and just put the seat cover over it. cause i also dont carry passengers but dont want to completely remove the rear seat just yet.

If you were determined to get even more room in the back seat, and still retain the security of an enclosed trunk area, you could make a new set of seat-backs out of plywood/foam and carpet. The whole thing could be about 1" thick, and would give you a bunch more room.

I did that once on a different car.....big job. I incorporated a sound system into the new seat-backs. Not this time however.
