autocross wheel tire combination question

what size tire should i run with a 15" rim
what is the weight of the stock 16" 2004 rim
what weight should i aim for for a if i decide to go 16" (compromise between weight and cost)

It looks like you are in SM right? I would suggest trying to get some custom wheels (15x10) and some 275/35/15 Hoosier A6's, that seems to be the hot wheel/tire setup for low power cars.

i actually havnt started doing autocross yet but am looking into getting into it.
and custom wheels are really expensive....

225/45-15...run some 'cheap' 15x7 Rotas or Centerlines.

215/45-16 on 7-8" wide wheels

215/40-17 on 7-8" wheels

Stock 15s and 16s are only 6" wide--too narrow for anything but stock class.

didnt even think of that.... edge racing has some sweet bundle deals of rims and tires.... hopefully il be making some extra cash this weekend and maybe put it towards some auto-x wheels and tires :D

Well the 15x10 recommendation with the 275 hoosiers is what you would need to be competitive w/i your class. (SM) Street Mod is a very broad class, and is usually a catch all for turbo street cars, where the driver has made mods to the turbo. In the regions I run in, it'll include STi's and Evo's with boost and turbo changes, Civics with engine swaps, etc.

Your focus would end up in SM with the Stg 2 cams. Auto-X-ZTS made some excellant suggestions for sizing, you should find some afforadable wheels/tires in that area. If your just starting go with one of the popular autox "street" tires, the Falkens, Bridgestones, or Dunlop's. Your class will allow you to run DOT R-comps, but you want to start out with a street tire. Sticky tires hide mistakes and allow you to develop bad habits.

The key is to go out there and try it, and have some fun:)

If you look on the centerline website you can typically pick up a set of overstock rims for $600-750. They are typically under 16lbs each, even at 16 inch, and are pretty freaking strong from what I've read.

I've figured when I had the cash I would get a set of Rota Slip 15x7.5 and wrap them with Star Specs or if I can't afford those Falken's. I'm aware R-Compounds would be great, but there way to many FTD's running around here on shaved Bridgestones RE-01's & Star Spec's.

I'm running the rota 15x7.5 slipstreams as my autox wheel, have them with Hankook RS-2's in 225 50.

If you buy the 7.5 wheel, get a 40 offset, I bought 45 offset, and had to "polish" the rear trailing arm a bit. I could have fit a 7" fine, but I looked at the rules and said, OK, I buying the largest STS combo possible. shouldn't have went with the 50 ratio on the tire, I should have geared it down with a 45 also. Oh well, you live and learn.
