I am having same issue as rband in getting a dealer to program it.
Anyone have a list of dealers in Massachussetts that have done it ?

Sorry it has been a long time since I have visited. My suggestion to you guys that are having trouble from your dealers is to give them the SSM number. It is very clear that the way to install the cruise is to merely access the ECM and toggle on speed control. They charged me an hour of labor to do it, but it only took them about 10 minutes. For those having issues, I continue to push. It's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease. Also, it's hard to fight against something that Ford has already instructed them to do. Hope you guys have better luck. If you need a copy of the SSM, send me an email at mikeswaggs@gmail.com. Otherwise, here is the SSM number:SSM 20341.

Thanks Mike

I shot you an Email, hopefully will need not need the copy.
I will first try informing them of the SSM number alone.

The SSM wasn't all too useful for them to look up.
I showed a dealer and he tried to look it up but he could not find any record of it

I sent a few of you guys the SSM. Not quite sure what Ford gains by making this hard for you, but hopefully the printed out page will make a difference.

Here are the guts of the SSM:

20341 2008 FOCUS DEALER INSTALLED CRUISE CONTROL
SOME EARLY 2008 FOCUS VEHICLES WERE UNABLE TO HAVE SPEED CONTROL INSTALLED FROM THE FACTORY WHEN CERTAIN OTHER VEHICLE OPTIONS WERE ORDERED DUE TO EARLY ORDERING GUIDE REQUIREMENTS. CURRENTLY NO DEALER INSTALLED SPEED CONTROL KIT IS AVAILABLE DUE TO MULTIPLE STEERING WHEEL AND VEHICLE CONTENT CONFIGURATIONS. THE ADDITION OF SPEED CONTROL REQUIRES THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL (3600), WHICH INCLUDES THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL SWITCHES (9C888) TO MATCH THE REST OF THE VEHICLES EQUIPMENT CONTENT. IN ADDITION, IT ALSO REQUIRES THE USE OF IDS UNDER THE ‘PROGRAMMABLE PARAMETERS’ SELECTION TO ENABLE SPEED CONTROL. NOTE: THIS IS NOT A WARRANTABLE MODIFICATION OR REPAIR. CLAIMS RELATED TO THIS MODIFICATION ARE SUBJECT TO WARRANTY CHARGEBACK.

any of you guys beginning to have issues with the cruise buttons?
They're working fine but the button itself is like peeling/bubbling.

My SET + button is beginning to look like it's gonna completely peel it's skin off.

It seems to have worn out in the area where you press down on it to activate it so I can see a bit of that blue green backlight through where no light should go through and I can see 3 bubbles under it on the bottom side of that button

Well combining the information from Mike and Phokus, I finally have cruise control working. After striking out at 4 Ford dealers I tried the last one in my area armed with SSM and using the term "Enable Cruise Control" rather than "reprogram the ECU". The Service Manager responded this will be a piece of cake.

So Thanks Mike and Phokus.

I just added cruise control to My 09' SE yesterday.. It works great. Just bought a steering wheel with the cruise buttons and set the ECM to say it was equipped with cruise control. The "fly by wire" design makes it so the car has everything equipped to do it. Its really odd that ford doesnt just make it standard to have cruise control and save on the costs of making steering wheels without.. It cost me 200 bucks for the wheel, so it was cheaper than having it added in when I bought it.. I worked at the ford dealership and alot of the vehicles are possible to do this altho Ford technically doesnt offer an a cruise control option kit to be added on.. Now Im gonna try to get the radio steering controls working.. If anone has any tips post em.. thanks

has anyone done this on an 09 s? I know cruise isn't an option on the s, but if its like the other models, everything should be there ready to go.
