SVT Shift Knob Removal

So I decided today that my shift knob was getting out of shape, lots of wear on the leather and scratches on the top, so I purchased a Momo sphere shift knob, I'm wondering, what is the easiest way to remove the stock shift knob? I tried with all my strength to twist it off with pliers, but it wouldnt budge, and I ended up scraping part of it, lol. Any suggestions are appreciated!

undo the clips on the bottom of the shift boot that hold the shift boot to the center console. Once the clips are undone pull the boot all the way up over the knob... There you'll notice two notches where a wrench can be used to loosed the knob...

true...they are screwed on there. if you still have the stock shifter, you may have loctite still there. or the previous owner put some loctite on. mine never stays tight.

I don't remember the size, but a metric wrench fits perfectly on the underside of the shift knob. I'm sure its in one of the STS threads, probably the how-to.

I found a wrench that fit, and tried just now to take it off and ended up stripping it even more, then resorted to pliers again and still no avail, I'm going to take it to Tuffy or somewhere and see what they can do when my new knob comes in.

If you're not worried about messing up the old shift knob, try using a strap wrench. When I took mine off, I used a pretty long wrench and just hit the wrench with a hammer to break it loose.
