i think its a bad idea, like others said cars have improved a lot since the 70s, cars get good gas milage now adays, look at gm, most their v6s get 30s on the highway. i think if there was a law that enfoced people to haev fuel efficient cars for highway use, like 30mpg+ and you can haev your big hu mer for around town or whatever, i think itd help. i just hate seeing gas hogs on the freeways, i know im my 10 gallons of gas il go 2-3 times as far as them filling up their 30-40 gallons.

and i think we need better public transportation, it annoys me to see like 4 ppl on a bus going somewhere, if we had nicer buses or even nice trains like in europe we wouldnt need as much gas and more ppl would be willing to pay the 5 bucks a day to ride on a niec train to go to work and not worry about morons on the road and such. and with that everyones stress levels would be down

And while you're blasting around at 70+ mph, do you think the supply of gasoline will increase, or the price of the stuff go down? If you do, you've been living on another planet.

We're paying $4.00+ for gasoline mostly because we're importing such a large percentage of the oil. The people selling it to us are well aware of what's been going on. They have no reason to lower their prices.

But.....they will have good reason to lower their prices when they see that we have become serious. Conserving every bit of gasoline usage is only the first step.....a small step, but in the right direction. After that we need to open up every area for new drilling....right now, followed by the building of new refineries. We have massive quantities of coal....which can be converted into gasoline. "Energy independence" is what we should be attempting to achieve.

IMHO.....when the mid-east oil people believe they might lose us as their biggest customer, their oil pricing may go back to sane levels.

Keep up business as usual, and you'll soon be looking back at $4.00 gal gasoline as "the good old days".

i'm over the complaints about gas prices. yeah, it sucks, yeah it's getting expensive to fill up, but whatever. i still like to drive 75-80. buy a scooter if you need to save on gas.

Comon guys, are we saying that we want people to go out and buy whole new cars in order to be able to drive on the interstates/highways?

And, I would love to see the math behind better MPG at 70MPH vs. a lower speed in the same situation.

In that way people will stop driving and will start using more public transportation :D Remember, no pain no gain lol
quite possibly one of the worst ideas for the dumbest reasons ever.

I think (or hope at least), that they meant that as a joke. :)

Just say no to 55! It was unenforceable before and today is no different. Let the gas guzzlers gradually retire over time. I think a 6000 lb Suburban carrying one person in it is wretched excess.
