PO456 code (Evaporative Emission System)

My check engine light came on and this is the code I got. It states a small leak was detected. Would anyone know what's causing this? I have a 2006 Focus with 50k miles on it. The car has been taken very good care of. I'd really like to be able to cure this on my own if possible.
Input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

by checking the gas cap, do you mean buy a new one?
I've cleared the code twice and it comes back about 2 weeks or so after its cleared.

I think I read somewhere about some canister thing under the car somewhere having a small hose mysterisly come off. Does this sound familiar? If so, do you know the location of this?

make sure your gas cap is closing properly and sealing. I know my moms car wasn't sealing right and kept throwing the code.

so what did you do, purchase a new cap?

I THINK it's closing properly. It appears to screw on straight and I always make it "click" a couple times when I put it on.

do you top off when you fill up?
im referring to when the pump makes the autostop. topping off is when you shove more in there afterwards. this will fill up the evap can.

then again, you could be lucky and have a hose pop off or bad cap

Yes, I top it off but I always have and haven't had any issues in the past so I dunno.

Can you give me a location on the hoses I could check?

yo havent had issues in the past cuz it takes time to destroy the charcoal-filled canister

just get underneath the car and start looking around for a loose hose. but i dont think that is your problem
