Sorry to revive an old thread, but I did some digging into older threads and re-researched the info here. AFAIK these sensors should plug in somewhere and just be turned on by a tech. And that mirror will not work with those who have Sync because it doesn't house the microphones of which Sync uses. That part number that I got was wrong. (Which makes me mad.) But if we can find someone who was willing to play with their car and has these sensors, we could potentially find out where these sensors are, where they plug into, their part numbers, and how they are enabled.

if anyone has a full subscription to ALLDATA or Mitchell OnDemand they can cross reference the wiring between the focus and lets say an escape of fusion..... they can tell you the location of the sensors and what pins and terminals they connect to.

these sites also are good for figuring out how long a repair job takes and gives you the step by step instructions to do it yourself. i have found this usful in the past to school my dealer and to make sure i wasnt being taken on labor costs.....

I just bought an 08 SES and i noticed the display the other day of the out side temp and compass. But they don't light up. I have the program on my computer that is the On Demand or shopkey 5. I have a shop and need to have this to work on certain cars. I have already checked to wiring diagram for the ambient light feature because i would like to add that to my car. I found that to be pretty easy to do, but the temp and compass i think will be a challenge. But it is true that we need to find out where the temp sensor plugs into and the compass module and where it goes or is located on a car that does have it and then figure out the wiring and i think we can make it work.

Ok, as i told you guys before i would study the electrical manuals for our cars to find out if we can activate the outside temp and compass feature as this thread is all about. I have the definite answer for this whole issue. I have completed my studies on this issue and believe me it took many days and hours of reading and studding to figure this out. Well i have bad news and good news regarding getting these things to work. the bad news is there is no way that you can get the outside temp and compass to work on any 2008 or early 2009. Now the good news. You can make it work in your 2008 or ealry 2009 cars by simply swapping the dash wiring harness, under hood wiring harness and inside harness that runs everything in the inside and trunk. Now if you find a donor car that is a late 2009 after July of 09 and a 2010 car then you can swap all the wiring from one car to your car. It is quite easy to do but just time consuming. I have already taken a dash completely out and it was not hard to do. Now if you get the wiring harnesses out of a donor car you will need to get the instrument cluster, HVAC unit AKA Heater control unit and the whole fuse box/logic unit that all the harness plug into. It is located on the left side under the dash. Can't miss it. Now if you have ABS/traction control you need to get the harness out of a car that has the same. Very important. See, the instrument cluster has the computer in it that runs the compass that from there connects to the inside mirror, and the outside temp is activated by the HVAC unit and then is processed through the computer logic unit to then put the display on the center display unit. If you guys need any other help on adding anything to your car don't hesitate to PM me with any questions. Believe me, i know these cars inside and out now after all my days of studies.

Wow. I guess you did do some studying. Sounds expensive as trying to find a donor with the same eqiptment. Audiphile, traction abs, sync, sun roof, interior lighting, mtx, ...........some of our cars are very unique making this nearly impossible

Sounds a bit eccentric to just get the compass and temp working LOL...I'm one of the lucky ones who has the outside temp :)
