Comparo SVT Focus vs. Euro C1 Focus?

Hi FFers, some hypotheticals in another thread got me wondering about something.

The MK1 Focus SVT was (and still is) an astonishingly well-balanced and great-handling vehicle. From what I hear, so is the sweet Euro C1 Focus. I know the RS model is even more equipped than our SVT ever was, but looking at the specs, I have to wonder if it can handle quite as well. The C1 platform is a more 'grown-up' setup, and it gained a considerable amount of weight in the process.

My questions are :

Would an SVT Focus be able to out-handle a current Euro Focus on AutoX/Technical track?

Would an SVT Focus with ~250whp be able to plain outperform the Euro Focus RS in all situations?

Personally, I think the lower weight would cinch it for the SVT/MK1.

This is all meaningless, so don't take it too seriously. Ford is going to be forced to drop the older lighter setup, as safety/feature standards keep going up and up. The C1 is almost certainly a safer setup, I've heard it allows for more chassis rigidity, which means that things like crumple zones can absorb a greater amount of force in an impact, etc.

But I'd like to hear the FF'ers thoughts on this. Thanks

The Euro-ST was faster around the 'Ring than the Focus RS that should tell you something.

the euro st drives very nicely, and with the 5-cyl turbo will walk the old RS with only 215 bhp.

the svt wont be able to outperform the rs in all situations. even with 250hp. the rs is AWD whereas the svt is only fwd. so in any kind of slippery situation reguardless of which car makes more power the rs will outperform. on the other hand you make a good point about the other aspects. but the rs is just so damn sexy.

The WRC ones are AWD, but those run about $400K IIRC. I know that the RS went around Top Gears test track in about 2 seconds faster than the ST. That said, the track was so foggy and greasy that the Stig barely made it around when they took the ST out...

The ST is grown up, but the chassis so much more planted than the C170 that any time lost in the straights is quickly made up in the corners.
