Handling : best of the pack.
Acceleration : near the best.
Braking : BAD
Noise : one of the quietest
Price : very affordable compared to most (they didn't take any rebates/incentives into consideration)
Styling : subjective

To slam the Focus, then select the most expensive car with the worst fuel economy (not to mention VW reliability) as the best in an article subtitled 'the quest for a 35mpg car' or something to that effect is stupid beyond belief.

Btw, I don't see the article you're talking about.
I wonder why it didn't show up?

From your linked article :

"The 2008 Focus — revised after Richard Parry-Jones was shunted out of global product development and back to Ford Europe — can be nimble, too. Its steering rack is actually quicker than its predecessor's (15.8 to the old car's 16.0), and the steering effort loads up nicely, revealing the baked-in prowess of the car it's based on. Throw the 2008 Focus into a sweeping bend, however, and it becomes obvious that the old car's sharp corners were shaven off. While its absolute limits of adhesion are similar to the old Focus, its transitional responses up to that point are blunted by a roll center that wouldn't be out of place on a Corolla."

I think the last line says it pretty well. It can put down the same numbers (not of the SVT obviously), but with the higher ride height, is more prone to body roll. I can attest to this. It still has the same balance, grip, and suspension layout however, and so it drives like a Focus is supposed to. It's also not hard to lower back to or beyond earlier Focus levels of ride height, totally eliminating that as a challenge. I'm debating doing this myself, but with the bumpy roads in DFW, I'm not sure it's worth it in the end.

I think we should show Ford some love. After all the criticism that people have given Ford about the apperance of the 08 Focus. They heard the complaints and fixed the major ones. And like it or not, The 08 Focus sales have taken off since it was released in October. And with market shifting the way that it has been. I don't expect a sales slump anytime soon.

Good Job Ford

The fact that they introduced it on American Idol just makes me want to hate it.
