Ive searched on here forever and everyone says something diffrent so does the books and the ford dealership.
Well with all that different information out there and the different answers you can find, I think it's safe to say that there isn't one fluid that's SUPPOSED to be in there...

I can't tell you what is SUPPOSED to be in the tranny, but I can tell you that I changed the fluid at about 35k miles (I think), and I now have 73k miles with the same fluid (RP). In colder weather the previous owner (and I) noticed that 1st gear sticks pretty hard until the car is warmed up, and I'm wondering if that could be from the fluid. It's never had any transmission issues other than that.

That's my $.02.

Do you have an owner's manual?

People here have provided documentation calling for either:

-Ford Fully Synthetic Manual Transmission Lube

-Mercon V Automatic Transmission Fluid

Any other evidence to suggest that another product "works" is purely anecdotal as no one has provided used oil analysis of a non-Ford fluid.

You can find either at your local Ford dealer, although the first option is sometimes more difficult to find.

Hate to flip over a rotting dead horse and continue to kick the bones here but I would love to know why some people say RP, FORD, MERCON, ETC. I live in a temperate climate (Northern Vermont near the border with Canada) so something that freezes the transmission in lets say negative -10F is gonna be unacceptable....... its been a year what does the survey say??

Has anyone had problems getting drain plug out? I was just using an allan wrench and used a pipe for some extra leverage and it started to strip out a bit.. I did not continue in fear of completely stripping out the plug. are the plugs available from ford? any help would be cool

I had the same problem but using another wrench for leverage seemed to do the trick for me....although I'll admit it didn't help the shifting for me.
