2008 Chevy Cobalt SS

The 2008 cobalt is still plagued by hard plastics and an econocar feel, and that large aircraft like wing on the deck lid. But the econocar fell ends there, the performance is spot on. If no one has read about the new SS it now has the same turbo ecotec that is under the hood of the Solstic GXP and Saturn redline, as well as a few other cars. Its now pumping out 260hp and tq...of course still to the front wheels. Tq steer is still present but GM trys to fix this by improving the chassie, suspension, and new "no-lift shift" system. A limited slip diff. is an option as well. The steering is still not as connected as with other cars like the Ms3 and the transmission is not super either. But the SS has improved and for the price, starting at 22,995 its a pretty good deal, especially for those looking for cheap speed but don't want to burn holes in their pockets at the gas pump. The SS flies to 60 in 5.5 secs and the 1/4 in 13.9 seconds at 102.5mph(MT). The SS is not known for spectacular handling especially here on the Focus forum lol, but the new one does obtain a grip of .91g's which isnt bad. It also has a top speed of 160mph. One of the more important things and something that GM has started doing with many of its production cars is the testing of the SS at the Nurburgring, "The Ring". The SS ran around the ring in 8:22.85 and set a new record for front-drive sport compacts, which is also impressive.

Hopefully these numbers will be stomped on by the new Ford Focus RS that is coming out.

Much improved, and the LSD does wonders for 200+whp cars. IIRC, 2008 UK Focus RS = 280bhp? Maybe I read the wrong article, but I would have to guess that a ~280hp Focus on C1 would do better than the Cobaltilier. At least it's not a Cadavalier.

Might of been an early 2.4L SS, or as they now call it the sport model. Its the non F/I engine but its a 2.4L making north of 170hp. This new SS makes me interested in the redesign of the car, hopefully it looks a lot better and the interior quality is pushed up...it would make it a great car.

You make it sound like that was a bad thing.

But this is not necessarily unusual, many times they do this to keep the insurance cost down, so that people can afford to buy the car (if they published the real power output it would place the car into another insurance bracket).

GM is notorious for underrating vehicles. ive seen stock gm cars put down more hp than was rated at the crank stock. they did the same thing with the ls1 camaro/trans ams.
