Cool Headlight Mod with LEDs

I read the thread on "how to paint your headlights" but I went I different way. And by the way, to get the lens off the headlight, bake 'em at 300' for 20 minutes. I tried the 200' for 10-15 on the first one and it was a nightmare. The second one, (at 300') I got the lens 3/4 off with the first bake, put it back in for another 10 minutes and it was off. Yep, it's hard to put such an important part, not to mention expensive ($252 each), in the oven but it works and there was zero damage.

Any way, instead of painting I added two blue LEDs (car is Vista Blue) to each headlight, mounted inside the lens - one under each chrome cross piece. The LEDs point back into the headlight at the chrome reflector. You really can't see it in the pics, but they actually sparkle from all the angles on the reflector.

This definitely will not get the cops attention, in full daylight you can't see them. Needs to be around dusk before they show up and they are washed out when you turn the headlights on.

I may consider brighter LEDs (those are 2600 mcd) one day but for now I am happy with 'em and just not looking forward to going back into those headlights again.

So here's the hard question. What do you think?

Yeah, I may do that soon. I'm probably going back in (the headlights) to either replace the LEDs with 4500 mcds or add two more 2600 mcds to each. That was a lot of work and I'm not thrilled that they're really only visible when it's darker. But I want to be careful not to get them to bright so I don't see flashing LEDs behind me.

Damn dude that looks awesome! I'm not a huge fan of painted headlights, and this looks like a good new mod (for those who may not like painted headlights, or want to add to the painted headlights). Nice work!

This looks great man! I have the same color car as well and really want to try this out. I painted my grill to match the car, I'm thinking I want to paint the chrome headlight part like a gunmetal black or something, some kind of dark silver, not to sure yet. Retrofit them with those projector bulbs, and add these LEDs you got! How'd you wire them? Do you know of any how to write ups??
