car trouble!!!!! (Alternator I think)

So i went to go to work this morning and when i go to start the car nothing. no interior lights or radio. Then i jump the car and it starts but i get to go to pull out to start driving to work and it dies and will not start. so i jump it again and go to turn the heat on to see if it will run and it dies. So is this a dead alternator or is the pig tail on the alternator bad?

Could be both, or some variant there of.

If the alt does not charge the battery you'd have to jump it (as you did).
If the battery where dead and the alternator was not charging, the car would die (as it did).

So check the voltage in the battery. If it's below 12.6 volts, it needs a charge. After it's charged you should be able to start the car, with it idling pull the negative cable. It it dies the alternator is not charging. Then it's time to find out why.

Don't go cheap...go good.. Go to your local auto parts store and buy the best Alt they have. Its a PITA to replace, so get a good one. The dif. between cheap and good is 30-40 bucks...To not replace it again? PRICELESS.

I JUST had to replace my alternator.

picked one up at part source, then went to see what my local garage would charge to install it and it turned out the EXACT same alternator with lifetime warrantee was way cheaper at the garage and their labour rates were good too!

You can easily get a refurbished alternator with a lifetime warranty. I would go with that versus buying new. Just make sure it has a lifetime warranty and you save the receipt just in case. But, unfortunately replacing the alternator is such a pain. It takes forever.
