Painting the Engine Cover

You may have to move this thread, didn't quite know where to use it. Anyway, I know some folks have painted thier engine cover.

My question is: what is under this cover. Is this where the head gasket is? If so, wouldn't I need to repace the head gasket if I were to remove this cover.

Please let me know. It scares me a little to have to replace a head gasket.

Well the head gasket is under there, but you gotta go WAY deeper to get to it. If you want to paint you cam cover, go ahead. I have and it's so simple you'll laugh when you do it. All you gotta do is disconnect the two lines that come from the cover and remove the three bolts in the top of the cover. The gasket is rubber and can be reused. The only caution I'd give you is to be careful when reinstalling the cover and not overtorque the bolts. Much more than hand tight and you'll hose the rubber gaskets under the bolts.

Will do. Just got done painting all the brake calipers. Engine dept. is next.

Question: The one's I've seen done have the letters for SPI Spit Port Injection done in a different color. How do they do this. Is it by brush or masking or what? Pics?

Try this. Try using a small bowl, put a good helping of what ever you're goin to use, then get a small brush to detail the letters and reaply every time it drys for about three or four more times. Tell me how it comes along caus I've been neglecting this for about two months. lol.

yep. What I did with mine was to paint it with Rust-Oleum Hammered paint. When it dries it looks like it was hammered out . Then I took a Dremel and sanded the raised lettering and the ribs on the cover. It is shiny and has a neat look. No pics, I live in the stone age.
