2007 Black SE
Hey all,
I am new to the forum, new to the focus, and really trying to find my way around this site. I previously owned a '96 Bronco and made the change to an 07 Focus SE. There are some mods I would love to make, nothing that I think is drastic, if someone can guide me in the right direction I would appreciate it. First thing I want is to swap the rear drums for disc brakes. Any info on how to do that would be awesome. Thanks... Oh...I am in Goldsboro, NC |

I've done the full SVT brake swap (from salvage parts, not any of the Ford kits) and personally, the rears were the easiest part of the whole swap. If you get one of the FR kits, it will make it much simpler, but if you find a wrecked SVT, you might be able to save a little money on the parts. Most everything is simply bolt-on, but there are a couple things to be aware of: 1. The drum backing plate is held on by rivets. You'll have to grind them off to remove it. Once you do, you'll notice that there are already holes in the trailing arm to mount the rear spindle, so the rest is easy. 2. The rear brake lines are a little different. When I put mine in, I installed SS brake lines, so I didn't bother using anything stock. I don't know if the factory flex lines will attach to the caliper as-is, or if you will need to modify them slightly. I think if you get one of the FR kits, they supply new lines. 3. For me, I had to replace the e-brake handle, because the new e-brake cable would not attach to the old e-brake. The ends are different for some years, so you may have to do that. I'd just look at it as a great opportunity to upgrade the the SVT e-brake handle. If you want any more specifics, feel free to PM me, and I'll do my best to answer any questions you might have. Sorry, FR stands for "Ford Racing". There are rear only kits, front only kits, and complete kits. Check with Mike from Hilbish Ford and he can get you a good price on them.

Welcome Joe, there are some good guys in the Raleigh area that meet up from time to time. I'm sure they wouldn't mind a new face showing up, just keep a lookout for their threads.
