black plastic moldings
im trying to take off the black trim on the bottom of my 01' zx3. i took it off one day to find a bunch of clips that were keeping the trim together. it looks like if i take off the clips there will be little holes along the side of the trim and that would look way crappy. anyone know what i should do?

If you mean the stock side skirts, sorry, mine came painted. You trying to remove them altogether or take them off to paint them?

Yes there are a ton of holes, I pulled mine off to install the Wings West side skirts and I was amazed at the number of holes in the rocker pannel.....

Hi,
I have removed the black plastic rocker panel pieces from my '02 ZX3. Yes, as stated above, there are a few holes used as attaching points for the plastic bits. I bought a roll of medium-silver-colored (my Focus is CD Silver) tape and carefully ran the tape, front to rear, being certain that the holes were covered over with the tape. The tape is about 2" wide, so it looks cool and took care of the holes and provides a sort of "racing stripe." Of course, the tape comes in many colors and widths. Check out http://www.speedgraphics.net for all sorts of striping and other car decal options. I also considered going to the nuts and bolts section of my hardware store (or AutoZone) and buying the appropriate number of "Christmas Tree" plastic attaching push pins to push into the holes to fill them. You'd then have to either paint the head of each some color you'd like or leave them black (some come light gray). The holes would be filled...without using a tape as I did...but you'd have to be OK with the little "lumps" over each hole caused by the shape of the heads of the push pins. Most folks would never notice these "lumps," perhaps. Just a personal preference thing. Jim Last edited by PlatinumPlug; 06-01-2004 at 02:11 PM. |
