POLL: Would you buy used tires (almost new)

But hear me out before you vote "no".
Well, here is the story. I got a flat and I need tires, so i ordered a set of BFG g-force sports at $95 a piece. They will take a couple weeks to arrive, so i went to a local tire place to get a cheap replacement for my flat in the meantime.
So the guy at the tire place starts looking for a tire and rolls out, guess what.. a BFG GFS. With 75% tread on it, mounted and balanced it cost me $30.

So I started talking to him and he tells me that these tires come from Europe. They are tires that were used for a few months and then upgraded, traded. Sometimes somone gets a flat and replaces all 4, etc.. I had already heard this from a friend.
So, this guy just yesterday got a shipment of 1800 tires that they are unloading and there have got to be a lot of good tires there.
He showed me the tires he put on his 4Runner yesterday and they were from that shipment, still with those little "new tire" hairs on them.

Meanwhile, I'm waiting for $95 tires.

Would you buy almost brand new tires for a third of the price?

I would, and have bought used tires. One thing most people don't think about is to be sure that the used tires are mounted so that they are turning the same direction as they were when mounted originally. This don't apply to directional tires since they have to be mounted to run in only one direction. When taken off, the non-directional tire should be marked as to the direction it was turning when originally mounted. I've known of tires to develope belt separation and bulges on the tread and sidewalls when mounted backwards to the original mounting. This may not always happen, but it increases the likelihood.

I've bought used tires before for my Buick. They looked like they only had 5,000 miles on them. Tire place was next to a wrecking yard, so it probably came off a wreck.

Yes & have done it before. We bought a set of 4 of P6's off of ebay for $125 with about 2K on them and they were fine.

I go through tires as fast as I do pie so I will do anything to save a few bucks on tires, but getting tires at 50% or less sucks becuase you have to mount and balance them and then do it again when you actually get new tires. I hate double paying for stuff so now I get new tires.
