And Trev. - Coil pack issues can also create higher rpm issues, check base for cracking after you pull it to look there is the common quick check diagnostic for that...

Fold seats down and use torx bits to unscrew brackets. Seat bottom flips forward for access.

Exhaust fumes in the passenger compartment tend to be frowned upon.

If done correctly which is not hard to do there is no reason for exhaust fumes. Shouldn't have to worry about fumes anyways unless you have leaks.

What we need here is what tool to cut the metal, then how to place back to avoid cabin exposures from exhaust asphyxiation or gas under car explosion. Use safe judgement!
My guess is remove rear seat and find the electrical fuel pump relay to wires rubber gromment, pull-look thru, then have water hose sprayer close, use a battery metal cut saw with non-arcing blade, and cut 10" square. Do this in a safe open area, and no one near by, or near other flamable materials.
Do same at local Boneyard but 11" square with a notch path cut to center wire, to get on your wires to your pump. Only saw no more that 1/4" deep thru the metal. Use a fire rated cauk under all edges of new 11" square plate and screw it down with drill point stainless #8 x 3/8" long panhead screws every three inches around the perimeter, centered on your 10" hole..
The gas tank fuel module ring is simply lefty-loosey. Make a notch cut U in a wood 12" long 1 x 4 as a tool, if ya can't un-loosen the ring. The entire fuel pump module with its lift arm
float with come out carefully. Put the thing on your bench and dis-assemble to replace the pump itself, or fix your fuel float reader card..ect Take a picture of its orientation as you lift out. Don't
loose the rubber o-ring that seales the module cap, or cross-thread it screwing it back on.

hi, I have a 2002 and I am replacing the fuel pump. This fuel pump is the one "without" the springs that keeps it in place. for some reason I can't take it out of the tank. I tried pulling, turning it and tried to find any clips holding it in place but I couldn't find anything.
Any suggestions?

I figured it out! I just turned it counter clockwise and it came loose.
now I am having a lot of trouble putting the blue ring back. any suggestions? I was thinking about using some grease...
