Best thing about our 1st gear....when you hear "I'll race you from a 30mph roll on.." either they are an eek away from their rev limiter (avg. 7krpm 4 cylinder car) or they are starting in 2nd gear way out of their powerband. This 1st gear has won me so many races....

..I think its perfect...

..just my $0.02

yeah it seems like the revs stay constant while in high gears, but can be slow to rev in low gears.

6th is way too short and 1st could be a tiny bit shorter.

You need like a blackbelt in first-gear traffic to both keep the car from stalling and minimize wear on the clutch.

6th really needs to be taller. It isn't usable in racing and it isn't tall enough to give good gas mileage.

Hooray for old threads.

I'll second that Hold on SVT! Tall gearing means we don't spin the tires in 1st. At least I don't. My old dunlops would break every now and again, and always on wet roads, but my Neogens are super sticky and they never break on dry pavement. A shorter 1st gear does mean better acceleration... but it's no good if you don't have the traction.

And on a second note... The car is geared for racing. We just don't make enough power to be able to run all the way up through 6th. If 6th was geared for cruising, then it wouldn't be usable for anything but that. IMO the gearing on the SVT is perfect.

That's my point... the car doesn't ever need to get into 6th gear for any reason other than cruising, but it's barely much of a drop in RPM from 5th. 6th should be taller so you can cruise at 60mph around 2k rpm, instead of 50mph.

Off-tangent, the Neogens are only super sticky for a little while, and they're garbage on wet roads.
