SVT Zetec into '95 Probe

My little bro drives a second gen 4cyl Ford Probe. He loves the car but it's getting old and maintenance issues are becoming more and more troublesome. I've done a bit of research and found that they basically used an early version of the Zetec engine in that car, and looking at it seems to confirm; it's mounted the same way, same bore and stroke, same physical layout...

I figure if we can put an SVT engine in there he'll have the N/A sprinter he wants, with a newer engine and a huge amount of aftermarket support.

An engine swap is new to me, but this seems feasible, and if we can find an SVT engine for a good deal, he wants to jump on it...

Anyone familiar enough with the Probe to tell me how good (or bad) of an idea this is?

You may be better with the regular focus 2.0L Zetec. Either way, you are most likely going to need the gauge cluster and ECM on top of the engine and tranny. Also, I have no idea whether the axles will fit

He's got the G5M 5-speed tranny in it. If it's a Zetec, then maybe the bellhousing is the same.

We wanna go with the SVT 'cause it'll be a cheaper way to get a new engine -and- "install" a bunch of N/A mods. I'm assuming aftermarket or fabbed halfshafts is gonna be on the order, and I'm looking at his guage cluster to see if we can rig a Focus cluster in the spot. If we do this, I'll be sure to put up pics... here and on ProbeTalk. XD

Pretty sure the Probe has a 2.2l Mazda engine so I doubt the zetec would bolt up to the tranny. I'd just sell the probe and buy --------a Focus. Better car.

the ford probe had an f series twin cam block.
the basic zetec wont bolt up to the trans. its best to use the mtx75 anyway since the old trans breaks really easy. the svt would be nice but you can get jsut as much from a zetec with na work too. you just have to bump the compression up a bit. thats really all thats different besides the bore on the svt.
