Idea: Cut the firewall on the passengers side and build a removable box with a little fan in it. Put the turbo in the cabin and forgo the heater core. The turbo can be your heater.

Lol. And I'm remote mounting my battery in the trunk. Ford Racing did a turbo v6 in a wagon. They put the turbo over the trans and ran the piping accordingly. so yes. It will fit. Single turbo only. Can't twin turbo the d-tec even in the csvt. Not enough space.

I don't know if I have posted in here yet but people have been making 4wd focus in europe for a while now. The most popular choice has been to cut the floors out and replace them with sierra floor pans while running cosworth engine replacements.

I recently picked up a copy of Fast ford which came out before the focus RS was released in europe (2003) where a guy converted his focus to 4wd using the parts from an rs1600 or rs2000 escort 4wd. This option appealed to me because you can still use your standard zetec power plant.

I will be doing more research into this over the next couple weeks and I can keep you up to date. I need to figure out what I am doing In case I decide I want to convert my RS to 4wd.

I spent 10 minutes reviewing this thead and can't find much discussion about AWD Fusion or Taurus X. Why try to adapt Escape, Jag, Mustang or Tempo parts? Ford isn't going to put AWD in every car they produce. It's tough enough to find Focus buyers willing to spend $75 for power locks or stuff like power windows & cruise control. Focus is an entry level car. Low production options like AWD in an econobox puts car companies in the red and history with the unpopular AWD Tempo proves that (I owned one). Ford has the AWD market adequately covered already. They aren't going to beat Subaru, Suzuki or Audi in that area. Honda doesn't sell AWD Civic for the same reason.

The reason we want to adapt an AWD system into the focus is for performance and traction reasons. Many of us have boosted and high HP N/A motors and once you move above ~260-280WHP you have traction issues in 2nd and even 3rd gear. Beyond ~180WHP you have traction issues in 1st in some turbo'd applications. A partial AWD system like the one used in the 2.5 V6 5spd Escape would eliminate the traction issues off the line but it's not built for 300+WHP and would probably break. In addition to that, a lot of people don't like the idea of only having 15% of your power put to the rear wheels. I personally think that's enough to get you off the line a bit quicker.

As previously stated in this thread and other threads where I have contributed to the AWD discussion, the Jaguar X-type stuff is still THE best option. 60% rear bias and full-time true mechanical AWD, no computers transferring power or any of that garbage and the only part in the transmission that has to be changed to bolt up to a focus is the input shaft becuase the diameter is different for the v6 variant of the MTX75 transmission housing.

couldn't we just lose the transmission crap altogether and use four electric motors to power the wheels? Never mind, I'm a crazy person. :P Good luck on this guys.
