6 Speed Trans Swap?

Hey guys. I'm having some bad issues with my trans, and think it's about to go. I can find my stock 5 speed for a few hundred dollars, but I was curious if there is much difference in putting a 6 speed in it instead? I remember reading around about people dropping a Mazda 6 speed trans in a Focus, but I'm not quite sure. Any info or links if anyone has done this before, or what I would need, ect. would be greatly appreciated. Oh, I have a 2000 SE, Zetec.

The mazdaspeed6 is 4wd, and uses a duratec block IIRC. It likley will not bolt up to your zetec.

You can however use a Getrag from a SVT focus, which should work fine. Ive seen them installed on Zetecs before.

I should note however that the Getrag has a much taller first and 2nd gear than the mtx-75. This makes it a fantastic transmission on a road-course track, but makes it more annoying for daily driving. Especially if your engine isnt making as much power as an SVT engine.

In truth, if I had the choice, I would take the mtx75 over the getrag. Its just better on a day-to-day basis.
