Emissions Question for NC members

I am thinking about deleting the whole EGR system completely including all hardwares and using a chip to flash the ECU. Would the emission stations know about it when I get it inspected? Or will the car pass smog test at all? Any inputs is appreciated.

as long as you dont have any codes in the computer your fine.I used to live close to hickory nc and we didnt even have to do the sniffer test there.

Every city/county should follow the same procedure.(I emphasize should) That being said, there may be some city/county differences throughout the state. Personally, in Charlotte, I've always had the "sniffer" test. However, if I had the test done at a stealership they put it on a rack to check for the cat, but if I went to an independent shop, they generally wouldn't. Not sure about the chip deal.

If the shop actually checks for a cat and there is none, you are supposed to fail. Some mechanics look the other way some will not. If the mechanic is caught he can be fined and lose his inspection liscense in this state. I am a trained mechanic, we were taught these things in NADC. NADC is a mechanic school if you were wondering. If you have a friend who inspects go for the power. If not think twice. If you fail you will have to pass at the same place that you failed, so you will have to spend the money to fix the vehicle back to stock. If not there will be tickets. Plan on tickets if you want to go fast, it lessens the blow. Hope that I have helped. Laters
