is anyone in here a pro with Photoshop, Xara X, Maya, Digital Fusion,or 3D Studio Max

My g/f is going to start taking classes on Photoshop at the beginning of July and right now Im helping her to get a little jump start on it by taking lessons from Lynda.com. She has amazing talent as an artist and wants to put that talent into the computer field. Along with learning Photoshop (I have the full version of 7... yes, I paid for it). She is also dipping into Xara X and after that she wants to take some classes on 3D Studio Max. I convinced her to start taking the classes and I've bought her a lot of books on Photoshop.

Is anyone in here fluent in those programs? Just trying to get an idea of the learning curve may be for Photoshop and 3D Studio Max.

Photoshop is pretty easy to learn, haven't used 3D studio max though. I've been taking a class this year in high school that has to do with digital art. Photoshop is one of the main programs that we use. I didn't know anything at the beginning of the year, but now I'm pretty fluent in it. Easy to do whatever I want with stuff now, it's also a lot of fun.

yeah, I used to play with Photoshop a lot at work but never really dug into it too much. My g/f on the other hand has a passion for art and really wants to persue a career in art with computers. Have you ever gone to CGchannel.com? Not sure how good of an eye you have but the pics in my sig are from that website and they are completely CG'd using Photoshop and 3DS Max. If your really interested in learning Photoshop, you should check out Lynda.com. Many people go to school for PS and use Lynda.com as well.

3DS Max is an amazing program. It has a fairly high learning curve. The basics are pretty simple same as Photoshop. However it can start to get fairly complicated, same as Photoshop. Making basic shapes in MAX is simple, however once you start getting into more complicated shapes and animation....that's were the fun begins. For instance making a table is not to hard, but try to make a wine glass, that's more complicated. Once you master the complicated shapes and designs, the next big issue is animation, and realism.

:) Yeah... I had some fun with 3D Studios back in the day. I got pretty good at it too, those skills are long gone now though.

I use Photoshop. Search the photoshop forum for some of my work: "Sorry to keep everyone waiting" as search terms.

Also, a really great Adobe tutorials site (including GoLive, Photoshop, Illustrator, and ImageReady) is found at The Web Machine.

Hey I'm kinda new here, in fact I've only had my svt for 2 days. I'm a recent grad of the Art Institute of Dallas for Graphic Design and I'm a pretty good in photoshop. It's easy to learn the basics but photo retouching is difficult. Anyone can do photoshop, but can you make it look real?? I'm no master at it but it's easy to learn, but as far as 3-D it's very difficult to learn and master due to the different dimensions you have to create in. Your girl will love these programs if she likes to draw.

Keep in mind that this Photoshop Forum is a General Discussion forum. The tutorials don't have to be just on cars. And besides, I will be adding tutorials if they are requested.
