voltage drop and belt squeel from alternator when wet.

Does anyone have any issues with their alternators getting wet and slipping the belt and the voltage dropping low for a lil bit? We had some snow today and if the focus kicked up some snow or had to go through some water the voltage would drop significantly for about 15 seconds then get a belt squeel for 2-3 seconds and the voltage would come back. My main thing is does anyone else have this sort of issue with their focus? It's more of an annoyance more so than anything else. The car has right around 66,000 on it and it's a 02 SPI. I am thinkin about trying to make up some sort of shield to protect the ac compressor and all from getting wet if I can. Basically a splash shield of some sort. I hope that someone can give me some insight here cause this is driving me crazy!

Check belt tension before you spend a ton of money. It may be as simple as the belt tensioner. Or a minor adjustment.

There is supposed to be a lower pully shield designed to minimize this. It is only made of plastic so they easily break off. Check to see if you still have one. They are cheap to by from the dealer-only about $10bucks

How old is the belt?
Is the smooth side shinny?

A new belt may be in order.

lol...I am currently on the crusade. Mine is much worse due to the supercharger, but it will get worse with the heater on or defrost. You are basically putting more of a load on the alternator and making it harder to turn, hence more resistance on the belt.

New tensioner and a heavy duty belt that wont stretch.

If you get a new belt, I highly recommend the gates Greenstripe belts. They sell them at NAPA. They are heavy duty and will not stretch as much.

I bought a Goodyear belt from Autozone and I swear the sound of my car at idle must be less than 10db! I can hardly hear it when its idling now because of that belt being so damn quiet. I don't know how long its going to last or anything like that, I just put it on less than 500mi ago, but it sure as hell is quiet. Alright, enough of the threadjack!

I haven't had a chance to look at the belt lately, it wasn't bad last time "glaized" that is. I was kind of suspecting the tensioner to an extent. But my main thing is for putting the alternator in that location. I would think it being a main electrical part that it would be on the top of the engine where it's away from the moisture.
