SCT Strategy flash vs xcal 2/3

This is partly a repost, but the other thread i found wasnt very helpful...can someone elaborate on this, i thought there was just the xcal 1, 2, and 3....and then i found the SF...an SF that looks like the xcal 2, and an SF that looks like the xcal 3...so please clarify my confusion if possible:

xcal:--------------------------------------

The xcal 2 and 3 can be ordered from somewhere like focussport where they take your ECU code, and send u a tuner with one or more tunes for that ECU code on it...then when your ECU is flashed, the xcal and ECU are "locked" making that flasher only usable on a car with that ECU code...when returned to stock, the flasher will work on any ford, but the tune is still only for that ECU code...

if not returned to stock, SCT can unlock it for 150 dollars and any tune on it still is only usable by that ECU code...

is that all correct, first of all?

If I were to purchase an unlocked xcal 2/3 from ebay or somewhere, unless it comes with tunes for my ECU code, I would need to get a tune from some other source (tom, FS, local shop)?

how much can the user change without the pro-race package? just error code reading/clearing?

SF:--------------------------------------

Is the SF the same as an Xcal 2/3 with a generic tune for any ford on it?

Is there a similar locking to ECU code as the xcal?

If I were to get one off ebay or somewhere, do I need to worry about ECU codes?

If I download and use livelink from SCT, does it turn the SF into an Xcal 2/3 with no tunes on it?

Summary:-------------------------------

I have an 01 Zetec and would like to get a tune for as cheap as possible...

my plan is to get a flasher off ebay or on these forums and then take it to a shop or get a generic tune from tom/focus sport

i was originally shopping for an Xcal 2, but the SF came up and looks just like it...and now im confused...any clarification would be helpful as I am probably going to bid on another SF tomorrow

**edit** sorry for the long post...im just confused
