This is probably the very common leak due to deteriorated o-ring on the thermostat housing fitting. There's a lot of posts on the subject, fix is to get a new o-ring at a plumbing or hardware store.

Yeah definitely what it sounds like. This was only a temporary fix for me. I ended having to have the entire t-stat housing replaced.

when did folks have to change the O- ring (mileage?) and is this an easy fix? Seems like my SVT at 47000 miles goes through an abnormal amount of coolant. Thanks.

Same thing happened to me at about 40,000 on my SVT. Now at 64,000 and it's back again, hoping it's not the T-stat housing. The service guys at ford said they pressure tested the system and he claims it's the cracked housing. But then again he went on to say that he usually sees it leaking alot more than that. I doubt he even looked for the leak to see if it was actually cracked, just went by what he normally did. I said no thanks to the $250 cost and I'll change the housing out myself if it comes to it, for now though I'll replace the o-ring again.
