totally, perfectly cornfuzed

aargh...
I replaced the OLD, orig plugs with Motorcraft double platinum... no issues that I am aware of, however the coppers are so highly recommended in these MANY pages...

So, WTF? Stick with the dp's or mail order Coppers?!?!?!?!?!

From one of my favorite toy store's websites regarding the AZFS22CF4 copper plug:

"The SVT model uses a colder plug like this one from the factory due to its higher compression ratio but it is platinum instead of copper."

So: IS the dp the proper heat range?
IS the copper really worth sourcing and installing?

If your car is stock, the factory plug is the correct plug. It has the correct heat range and the platinum coating on the center and ground electrode is there because of the high firing Kv of a coil pack system. Typically, the factory plugs on a coil pack car are single plat because the spark will trash the gound electrode on the first firing cylinder and the center electrode on the partner cylinder. It's just the way coil packs work. The newer COP systems run double plats because all of the Kv from the coil is used on each individual plug so there tends to be more wear on both the center and ground electrode.

Replacement plugs for a coil pack system will generally be double plat...this way one doesn't have to put the right plug in the right cylinder. It sounds silly for a manufacturer to save an extra $.50 per plug by installing single plats in selective cylinders but when you make millions of engines with 4 - 10 cylinders that $.50 per plug becomes millions and millions of dollars extra to put double plats in on a coil pack system.

I THINK these are going to be sourced (info from another forum)...
"MOTORCRAFT SP463 -
Note: part num AZFS22CF4 has been superceded by part num SP463"

Then from C-F-M AND here (http://fswerks.com/):

"Motorcraft Double Platinum Spark Plugs (4 Pack) - 16v Zetec AZFS32FE

Motorcraft Copper Spark Plugs - 1 step colder (4 pack) - 16v Zetec
Highly recommended when you add 50+ horsepower to your Focus
(For head package or forced induction vehicles only) AZFS22C

Begin by having your part numbers cross referenced through the company that makes them. I.E. GO TO A DEALER AND LET THEM LOOK UP YOUR PLUG APPLICATION.

I hope I'm not in the wrong area. Search led me here, but I noticed that this is under the SVT Performance Chat.

Based on what you are saying, the SP463's are good for Zetecs? 03 Zetec in a Wagon which is a DD? I have read through very many of these pages and would prefer to change out plugs that work better more frequently than installing and forgetting some ok plugs for 100k miles.

I put the SP463's gaped to .060 and Taylor wires in my focus and have had a loss in MPG and it takes longer for the idle to smooth out with a cold start up. If i dont let it warm up the engine revs up in between 3-4k when i press in the clutch to shift to taller gears, this lasts till the car is up to Temp and then goes away. Any thoughts?

Wires n plugs

Just went thru 20 pages of this today. Someone asked about cfm wires. I was getting a mount so I figured I'd get plugs( mc cc's) and wires. I called about the cfm wires and guy said they were around 250 ohms per foot.( no specs on site) I got them instead of thunderbolts bc i didn't feel like going on summit or jegs. So if anyone wants to know...
