You can NOT run larger injectors without a tune (just for the injectors)

Can I get away with the .060 gap with the MSD wires and stock coil?

Absolutely... you may even get away with a .065

Always start with a bigger gap and see how your car does... if it misfire close the gap and try it again.

Remember the bigger the gap, the stronger the spark.

So, if my car has what feels like an intermittent misfire, even though I'm only running about .060" gap, any ideas on that? I also have the Steeda 8mm plug wires.

close the gap by .002 and see what happens.... also it could always be a bad plug, wire or even coil starting to fail.... maybe even a dirty injector.

It did it before I changed plugs and wires. I've run about 2 bottles of Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner through. And I'll get shot for admitting this, but I also tried adding some ethanol to the tank (due to its solvency properties), still same issue.

I'm guessing it's a coil problem or intake issue (IAC?). I have also changed fuel filter, air filter, and sprayed MAF with some brake cleaner. Or I suppose it could still be an injector. The car only saw 32K miles in 6 years, so I'd say anything fuel related is possible.

Just thought I'd ask. Looking for possible solutions.

BTW, no CEL or codes either.

Does the coil pack have a ground?

Hi everyone, lots of great information on here. I'll be getting my SP-463's this week. I'm currently gapped to .050 with the iridiums or plats or whichever, but I'm gonna try for .060 when I pickup the coppers.

Anyway, I've just been reading a lot about the Big3 mod and I'm not trying to jack this thread, but what are the pinouts for the connectors going to the coil? Does it have a ground on it? Does it have a straight 12V power? I'd be interested in grounding out the negative pin more directly, or feeding a direct (fused) 12v source if it has that. Anybody know? Anybody tried this?

Happy modding,
~Joe

OK... Somebody beat me !! ARGH !! My 2003 ZX3 has 50 thou miles and I decided to go for new wires and plugs.... I did this without consulting this group and now... ARGH !!! I replaced the plugs with Bosch Platinum +4's, 4488's and grabbed some Bosch wires. Put it all in and it does run smoother but after reading everything here I believe I could have done alot better, parts picking wise.

My svt had old platinum motorcraft plugs, and the crappy screamin demon coil pack and wires. So I ordered the copper core motorcraft plugs, gapped to .060, taylor wires, and picked up an oem coil pack and installed them today. Man, it runs insanely better. Its like a whole new beast. Thanks for this great thread and all the recommendations!
