I want to change plugs (and probably wires) in my fiancee's 2004 focus sedan. I know I can request the motorcraft SP-463 plugs from advance, but they have a number of platinum plugs in stock. It sounds like these plugs are supposed to last longer. This is a normal daily driver, and she doesn't care too much about increased performance.

I want to know what I'm looking at as far as plug longevity. Sounds like the copper plugs need to get changed more often. What kind of difference in length between plug changes are we looking at between copper, platinum, iridium, and plugs like the E3 diamond fire plugs? If its a lot, it seems like longer lasting plugs would be a better investment, but I just don't know too much about this. If someone could help, that would be great.

But, does it have a fOCUS engine, or something different?
2.0 SPI, Zetec, or Duratec, or the 2.3 Duratec?

I realize, in some vehicles they most likely do work OK in, but for the fOCUS, they're not recommended.

Here's what a few FF members had to say about Bosch plugs:

I tried them (Bosch Plat+4) in my 4.2L V8 Mustang, and 1.8L Lancia.
In both cases, they worked good to excellent for about a week, and then they went to crap after that.
I've never tried them since.

And, to the above poster, InPsychOut.
First off,
Second off, you might think twice about the Motorcraft SP-463 for your wife's car.
That plug is a colder heat range than the standard plugs in your model car.
(FYI, This thread in is in the SVT area)
I know there was a recent discussion in the Zetec forums about that very plug,
and what the heat range difference may or may not do to the engine.
Lemme find the thread...
Here it is:
http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=176651

To me, plugs are so easy to change, I opt for the best conductor (copper) and change them more often.
There's no reason you can't get 30,000 miles or more out of a good set of copper plugs.
The other plugs will last longer, but I've also seen 100,000 mile plugs that have frozen to the head so bad they broke,
and new threads (heli-coil) needed to be cut into the head.

I see what you mean , I have used them in a standard focus Zx5 model with the zetec motor of course it wasn't an SVT I was just curious if they would work or not I was looking for a little input on using them in the SVT model in which I currently own and not the standard ZX5 I appreciate the info. i was merely pointing out that not everybody likes using stock plugs including my self.I used stock plugs in my last focus and good but I used the plus 2 form bosch in it and ran greatit just depends on what the person preferres. I appreciate the info.

anyone got a link to an online store that sells the thundervolts and the SP-463's? I'd rather just pay once for shipping.

nevermind, it appears the cfm performance wires are for an MSD coil.
